Hopefully this is the correct place to post. Im new! My second set of “hens” are hitting almost 9 weeks. The chicken pictured has been making some pretty suspicious noises for awhile now and is fairly aggressive whenever I try to pick it up.
Any long time chicken owners able to give me an educated guess on whether or not I’ve got myself stuck with a rooster?

Yes, that one is definitely a male.

If you look at his back, in front of the tail, there are some narrow feathers with pointy ends. They are a darker red than many of his other feathers. They will grow long, and hang down to each side of the tail.
Those are male saddle feathers-- only male chickens have them.
A hen would have wider feathers, with rounded ends, growing from that part of her back.

That's in addition to the big red comb & wattles, and the crowing. So yes, he is certainly male.

Thank you! I’ve tried looking things up online but I’m never fully confident in my findings!
the combs and wattles on my chickens always differ so I wasn’t sure how much I could rely on that tell.
My other five are pretty tame and make hen(ish) sounds at the moment, but it’s hard for me to tel with them.
Do you notice anything obvious about them? 😬

All cockerels.

I know you wanted hens, but unfortunately I agree with Overo Mare about these five:

All cockerels.

Those saddle feathers I mentioned in my previous post are pretty obvious on most of them. And when they are the same breed, and the combs & wattles are all about the same size as each other, they are probably all the same gender too.

(If there had been even one pullet in the group, it would probably have been easier for you. The gender differences are much more obvious when you've got both options there to compare.)
