Hello Everyone! I am new to this site and soon to be a new chicken mommy! Tomorrow morning I am going to get my chickens from my great uncle. I can't tell you what kind yet (I get to pick out of a variety of chickens) but they are around 8 weeks old. I do have one question for you guys, I am told when I bring them home to put them away in their coop instead of letting them in their chicken yard. Is this true? I have read in a book you put them into their yard, then when it getting dark put them inside of their coop. The Chicken house as I call it, has a large covered, fenced in yard, that their house is in. My husband says put them inside the coop? I'm lost, anyone have any advise? Thank you!

Chickens are generally safer in their coop, than their outdoor run , in the evening. After awhile they figure out to go back in the coop when it starts getting dark.

I have also read on this site that when you bring new pullets home, to have them stay in their coop for a few
days to settle in. Keep searching, you'll find the info you want/need.

! Good to have you here. I agree with your husband - coop them up for a couple days to get them used to their new home. Just put the food and water in their coop and they'll be good to go. Then after a couple days they can be introduced to their run. Good luck to you!.
