Hi. My name is Crimm. I'm new to BYC as you can tell. I am 19 years old. I live with my parents in our semi-rural home in Georgia, close to Atlanta.

As you have already seen, my family and I are expecting to get chickens soon. Even though my parents were the ones to originally come up with the idea, I took it upon myself to choose the breed, also since I'm the only one that actually did the research. This will be our first flock, so I wanted to choose a chicken breed that fit into what my parents want and/or needed. I decided on the Delawares because I saw that they have a calm, quiet temperament, lay a good amount of eggs, and a good size for a meat bird.

I've never really handled nor raised chickens before so tips are gladly appreciated.

The best place to start your poultry education is in the Learning Center. There are a lot of articles there that will get you off to a good start. The Search feature (upper left corner under the logo) can also be very helpful in finding information. And if you have questions, always feel free to ask, there are a lot of helpful members here.
