I used to hate birds, couldn't stand the smell and did not understand the fascination people had for them. Don't get me wrong, even though I didnt like them I still thought they were beautiful with their colorful feathers and cute when they were babies - I was very much a cat person and tolerated dogs because they would alert me to something I couldn't hear - like someone coming in the house or a car pulling in the drive...
And now, I'm in love with a muscovy named speedy and because of her need for companionship other then me... I now have 6 muscovy females, 1 khaki campbell male, 2 that I still dont know what they are neither breed nor sex - though with as loud as they are I'm leaning towards females lol... and i have 1 male muscovy that is currently healing from a broken wing that i am going to adopt... and I have a pit/lab mix that I actually let her lick me on occasion and she's allowed to sleep with me on the bed. She is so good that I've come home three times today to the crazies having escaped their enclosure and she just went into her pen, and didn't touch them.
i love every single one of them, and can't wait until i can afford to buy some property and maybe raise some other types as well... but speedy will always be my first love. I still miss fancy every day - and I feel like I got the other 6 as a way to replace him as he was my big cuddlebug baby.
I've learned so much about ducks and birds since finding speedy that I now can't imagine my life without them... lol my family thinks I'm crazy because of how I take care of them and worry over them when I didn't worry that much over my beloved cats.
Anyhow, thank you BYC for all the wealth of information provided to teach others how unique birds really are and how loyal they can be if raised as pets and to each other even in the wild.
Side note: I also have to admit that if it hadn't been for me finding speedy, I probably wouldn't have noticed the mama and her babies at the fountain and would have just gone on with my day, never even knowing that there were babies stuck down in that drain.
I'm now more aware of the other birds then I was before and other animals, too. I've rescued a few turtles lately crossing a busy road, too. Just stopped my vehicle and moved them. I might stop for a snake though, but I ain't touching it!
all these pictures are from the old house - I'm working on my set up again for outside
I'll have new ones soon!
My spoiled brats inside because they snuck in while I was cleaning out their pen, lol...

This is the momma and her three babies that she has left. She let them come up to me, and then they all went running back to her.
I checked today that nest has babies in it now - it's at one of the hospitals I deliver supplies, too - momma was feeding them when I stopped for my delivery
