SOP Question

The standard for the American Serama says that the legs need to be of "average length", and creeper legs are a disqualification. How long is too long? How short is too short? Does this depend on what the judge believes the Serama should look like? What is the 'perfect' length?

Hmmmm. My understanding is that they cannot have the creeper gene, meaning they don't have creeper legs like the Japanese bantam, and preferably, their relatives have none. I want a Serama expert here though. Different judges have different preferences. Perfect length is normally long enough that it's feet don't touch it's chest, and short enough that they aren't awkward.

Their ancestors consist of japanese and malay bantams. So, yes they can

Not entirely sure about the definition of creeper legs, but I think @AMERAUCANAS4REAL covered it? As I am sure you know, when a serama is posing, you want a vertical wing, you want the leg to be long enough that the wing does not drag on the ground, and is not too far off the ground. It depends on the judge a little, and also what you are showing in. Table top is a little more judges opinion it seems. Can you post/pm pictures of your seramas (if you have any)

to me, this guy has really nice leg length, to give you an idea. you can see that his legs give him enough room to pose his wings properly, but not too long that he looks like a flamingo


This one to me has too long of legs, BUT if you have a hen with too short of legs, it would be benefitial to breed her to a rooster with long legs to help even it out

This hen has legs that are too short, but I wouldn't call them creeper legs quite yet. When I think creeper legs, they look like just a little body that wattles around.
