My Mini Rex has bare patches on her hocks. They are a little red. What can I do for her? I feel bad. They don't seem to be tender, as I gently probe them and she doesn't care. Balm of some sorts? Thanks!

This is a very common problem with Mini Rex. They probably aren't sore, unless there are open wounds or broken skin. A lot of people will put a sitting board or some similar flat surface in the cage so the rabbit's feet get some relief from the wire. I have a large ceramic tile in many of my rabbit's cages - it gives them a cool place to sit, and it's easy to clean.

I have heard people say they have rubbed Rogaine on the bare spots, but whether it really helps grow hair back on a rabbit's foot - that I can't say.

This is a common problem with ALL rabbits who are kept only on wire. It's irritating. Wire is great - for people who want an easy cage to clean.

The ceramic tile is WONDERFUL for a rabbit. I also give my rabbits (30+ of them) a special "hay box". I.E. a 50 cent mini plastic box from walmart that I stuff with hay to sit in. I empty it every day or so and add fresh hay.

No sore hocks here!
