sore on tail

So the new bunch I got, had been picking on each other, but I have increased their protein, they have more room and it seems to be pretty much stopped. I grabbed the one roo tonight off the roost, and I can see new feathers growing on his tail, but the scab he had, the hens keep picking off. I only have neosporin right now and I am wanting to know if that would be ok to put on it, until I get hit up the feed store? Would that deter them pecking on it at all? And is it safe if they DID peck it?
