I hope i'm not hijacking this thread, but now that you guys are talking about minor color variations, I'm wondering the my rooster is actually a RIR. He has lighter coloring then roosters on Google lol! Wondering what you think! @Bruce Moore, I hope you don't mind!

You can see my supposedly RIR hens in the back corner, and nearly visible behind him as well, there about the same color as one picture by the OP.

Not a RIR, looks more like a RIR x Gold Buff Orpington to me. ( Just a guess )

Did he come from a hatchery? The hen in the back left looks like a Production Red.

We got the hens from a feed store, either TSC or CHS Northwest. More likely CHS, but she probably came from Hoovers then, I believe that is were they usually get there chicks from.
Sam, the rooster, we got from a friend who needed to get rid of him. We needed a nice rooster, so we took him. He's a sweetie. Thanks for the info guys!

Thanks, its definitely possible, I can't remember if a hen of hers hatched him, or if she got him from a feed store/hatchery. Thanks for clearing up my suspicions!
