Can't really say I'm new. Been poking my nose around for months now. Never really needed to say anything cause any questions I had/have are answered from this forum. So first and foremost....thank you ALL very much for the help.

My name is Brad and my family and I have have recently dove into the BYC idea. 4 weeks ago we bought our first hens from Agway. So yeah...we're still really green at this. But like I said, with the SOLE help of this forum all my questions have been answered.

My wife and I met a very nice lady at the TSC trade show in Waterville a couple weeks ago looking to add some Silkies to our adventure....and right now her name is escaping me...so I apologize for that as well.

Sooo..this is me saying hi and as a parting gesture, I thought I'd throw up some photos of what we got going on.

End of week 1

End of week 2

End of week 3

End of the first month.

And there we have our homeade waterer and feeders...again..thanks to BYC.

Thanks. For the time being, we're trying to get into this as cheap as possible. The coop was a reclaimed woodshed my kids were using to store their bikes and other summer stuff. Now I just have to find room for it all in the garage before snow flies.

I'm kind of lucky, I use a "reclaimed" chain link dog kennel. I put chicken wire around the bottom, and over half the top, and plywood over the other half. I plan on putting walls along the back half when I get the chance, but they don't need it right now. I'm in Southern California so it never really gets cold, they can live outside all year long. Sometimes I even sleep outside in the backyard for fun. I'm trying to do as much as I can for cheap also.

I tried counting, but your birds keep moving around, how many do you have? I see 11 or 12...

There's 12. 6 N.H. Reds, and 6 Barred Rock. Not counting the 6 white silkies that came later. 18 total.

Hi and :welcome

That's a nice looking coop you've got there. I got my feeder idea from BYC also, though that was several years ago now.
Your birds are cute too. Love the first picture!

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have, and enjoy the site. :D
