Sothing is wrong with my emu's leg *fixed, thank you all*

I'm just wondering if the vet was able to help your emu as I have one of a similar age with the same story as yours. She is almost 3 months old. I took her to the vet a few weeks ago and was told it wasn't bad, her ligaments and tendons felt good and she would be fine. Now it is more noticeable and turns out more. Everything I read says there is nothing you can do and eventually she will have to be put down. Was your vet able to save your bird?

Her leg turned more and more until it was practically facing behind her. She was uncomfortable and it was obvious that any day she would not be able to stand so we, sadly, had to make the humane decision to put her down.

Thanks, se, it was quite difficult but was made even worse by Fuzzy's reaction when she never returned. We are in the process of finding an emu chick to raise as a companion for our Fuzzy bird so he doesn't have to be alone.

Oh so sorry.

Thanks for all the compassion. We are on the upswing now and excited for our new chick which we should be able to pick up very soon. I just hope when she gets big enough to go in with Fuzzy, that he likes her! I hear it is not always the case! If that happens I won't know what to do!!!

Keep them separated but able to see each other. If they can walk a fence line together that is good. Graduate to supervised visits before leaving them alone together. Our boys wanted to stomp the girls when they first met. I suspect they still do some days! Good luck and congratulations on finding a chick.

Thanks for the good advice! We do have an area set up where we can let them share a fence line once the chick is big enough to go out. I heard that once they loose their striping that that is a safer time to try them together. Any advice on that?
