Sound Identification

Hey all,

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We have 12 girls who live together and three or four of them love to just walk around in the morning making the sound in the video. We can't figure out why. We believe it to be an alarm sound or a sign something is wrong but cannot seem to figure it out. Can anyone confirm the call?

We have a coop/run that should be good for the number of birds (see below)
Feed/water out all the time
added more spaces to hide than just under the coop and some roosting bars in the run

Any help would be appreciated. We are at a point where we are looking to rehome if we cannot figure out a solution :'(

They're singing, "I'm gonna lay an egg." Very nice coop and pen set up.

Thanks for the info! We figured that sound had to be too much to be singing. Guess we will have to see about sending them to a friends house :/

It's their egg song. Some hens can get quite dramatic in their song. I've got a few who sound like they are dying and by the size of the egg I don't them.

We do hear the "egg song" while they are laying but the birds in question usually are not laying until much later/if at all. The sounds are not at all song like, there is not real timing to when they do this type of squawking. One of our birds is a black sumatra, we do not think it even lays eggs and yet it is always squawking (it sounds the most like a seagull of any of them).

If they are singing an "I am going to lay" song would that be somewhat without a pattern or duration of more than 4 seconds or so? They are consistent in that morning is the most regular time for them to do this.

Thanks for sharing the posting - so interesting! Almost everyone of our pullets sing egg songs loudly, and I can sometimes tell which one is singing! But I never kneww there is such interesting dynamics with the roosters. (we only have girls, no boys)

Egg song! do not rehome yet. My gals used to be so loud, but they matured a little and the sound went from very loud, to an occasional quiet song

Sound in the vid is what I call 'grousing'.
Probably nothing 'wrong', some just like to 'b!tchandmoan'.
Have had a few birds that were incessantly grousing, loudly!
