SOUR CROP AGAIN!

They are on probiotics. And yes I used tylan and Duramycine and vetrex. These poor chickens almost died. They all were pretty sick. That has been 4 or 5 months ago though. I feed 18% layer feed. Yes, I bought a brand new coop from TSC and then built another one. I have a huge run and a 12x12 dog pen for their shelter. They are not crowded.
at all. I dug up the whole floor in the TSC coop and use it for their lazy days and dust bath. I SOAKED everything with Permethrin 10 then ordered permethrin 36.8.. I think that is the correct percentage. I alternated 10 one week then 36.8 the second. Been doing it for over a month.
I now have some fluconazole. She is in tge TSC coop alone and all I have given her today was a little water with probiotic in it.
I am wondering how I should give her the fluconazole

medistatin from mikes falconry supplies works great, it will kill the candida completely so it doesnt keep resurging. is her crop possibly pendulous? as that can also lead to chronic sour crop infections.
I dont think so. I thought perhaps it was but I kept a cole eye for several days. Every morning is was flat until the last couple of days. She is so darn fluffy her whole front looks fat as a pig

its possible you remedies are just fighting it back, not getting rid of the infection. this is the best treatment, and mike is amazing, and has great customer service and overnight shipping available.

I bought them when they were 4 months old. I was new to chickens. Before I real

She has mites. I have been fighting them for about 6 weeks. I bought them from a lady when they were 4 to 5 months old. I was new too chickens and she really got me good. They had coccidiosis, respiratory infection and red and northern fowl mites. I have been using Permethrin spray for coop and permetherin and , 7 dust for the chickens. I have totally cleaned my coop at least once a week. They are no longer scratching but every one in awhile. She has laid two very small eggs then stopped. I am sure that is from the mites. I am spraying weekly along with alternating 7 dust and Permethrin powder. I put all new woodchips in along with DE. Boy I tell ya, it has been a journey!

Sorry to hear about your sick chickens as I've had similar bad experiences too. I was new to chickens about 8 months back and the pullets I bought from a local breeder were sick birds! I've been having loads of problems with them and one of them has a prevailing issue with sour crop too.

The only thing I noticed that will prevent her sour crop from coming back is to not feed her any greens (especially grasses) that are longer than 1.5 inches. Anything beyond that will cause the sour crop to come back again. So that means she can't free-range.

I've tried the yogurt treatment and it doesn't work very well. The only thing that has worked for me is to isolate her, then oral feed her with 10 mL of vegetable oil 3 times with a 1/2 hour to 2 hour interval each time for the first day. Make sure she's confined in a quiet place and doesn't have access to any food or water on the first day. She will try to drink as much as possible to try and clear the crop herself but it won't help. Massage her crop for 5 mins every oral treatment. Monitor her feces. It will be very smelly but she should pass them all out by the following morning. If not, repeat the veg oil treatment the following day but provide some wet crumbles (just a cup for the day) and unlimited access to ACV water. It should clear up within a few days.

I agree with others that your chicken probably has an underlying issue that has resulted in a sour crop. I've tried many thing to help resolve that issue in my hen but haven't been successful unless I'm ready to foot out hundreds of dollars to resolve it which I can't.

You may want to consider raising your own chickens from eggs in the future. That way you can control their diet and lifestyle right from the word go. I also believe that it's cheaper and more rewarding. I've done that recently and *fingers crossed* they are thriving. You don't need an expensive incubator to do so. I've got a homemade incubator using a styrobox with a thermostat and heat mat and I've had 10 hatched out of a dozen. You'll just have to manually turn them 5 times a day and monitor humidity. The only difficulty that you will have to face is having to "get rid" of excess unwanted roos or sick chicks.
