I know that you are worried about your chicken, I understand. But there is a better way to get the attention of another person on BYC. I am a person too on this side of the screen who is just as worried as you about my girl. When you interrupt my thread like that you are essentially sending the message “I know you are dealing with a sick chicken too, but even despite that knowledge I still find what’s going on with me more important.” I hope you understand that I’m not mad, but simply want to educate. It’s just quite rude. Imagine the same situation in real life:Sorry to hijack this post but I have a post I'd like you to check out the pictures....I'm not sure what I'm dealing with... sour crop or canker... I'll tag you in the post.. @EEformeI hope your girl gets better.
Just keep working on it, it takes time to resolve crop problems. It seems a little emptier, but definitely not all the way. I’m so worried
My hen seems to have the same condition going onShe didn't have access to food or water all night right?
Can you get a picture of her poop?
I would follow the article for treatment.
If I have a hen that has a fluid filled crop in the morning, then I treat as a Sour Crop. You may not smell a yeasty odor yet because you have caught it early.
Miconazole or Clotrimazole can be used. Give this 2X a day for 7 days, even if she gets better and the crop is normal, it's important to give for the full 7 days.
I do not withhold food or water during waking hours, I let them eat/drink free choice. I also leave them with their flock to move about as they normally would.
Some folks feel like they need to cage their hen so they can monitor closely and if that's what you really feel like you need to do, that's o.k. too.
You've noticed this early on, treat her and see how it goes. A crop can become slow for various reasons.
Try not to be nervous, you've got this
I'm going to tag our own lovely Carol (@azygous ) to chime in with thoughts, suggestions and support. She's been a tremendous mentor and help, especially with ailing hens with crop problems.

If you are in the U.S. you can find both at stores like CVS, WalMart, etc.My hen seems to have the same condition going onBesides probiotics in water, where would I purchase Miconazole or Clotrimazole? I am also gently massaging her crop. Thank you!
Thank you. Honestly I can’t tell you how grateful I am for your responses. No one else has really replied and although I have dealt with sour crop before, it ended badly last time so this has been very nerve wracking. I think I might ask my parents to buy the miconazole for her tomorrow. Thanks so so muchJust keep working on it, it takes time to resolve crop problems.

My dad checked her crop first thing yesterday and the day before and it was empty! We put her back in with the other chickens and we’re going to see how she does. She’s still molting so I didn’t want to keep her away from normal food for too long, plus she wasn’t really eating her eggsIt can be unsettling when an issue is hard to resolve.
Miconazole works well, buy store brand it's not quite so much $ as name brand.
You can also use Clotrimazole (athlete's foot cream) the same as you would Miconazole.
I've had success with either one.
Hang in there![]()
