Hi all, I hope I can get some help!
I noticed yesterday evening that one of my ex-battery hens was puffed up, lethargic and closing her eyes a lot.
When I examined her she felt heavier than normal. Her crop was squishy like a water balloon, and her abdomen was also swollen. She has also been having yellow, runny diarrhea.
I've put her into chicken hospital (a dog crate in our shed) with some grit and garlic water, but no food. She has been drinking the water.
I ordered Harper's coxitabs, but they have just arrived and I haven't administered any yet.
I also have some Greek yogurt, but haven't fed her any yet.
I'm pretty sure we're dealing with sour crop and something else. Possibly coccidiosis or water belly.
Other info:
Ex-battery hen, rescued 21st of July.
She hasn't laid since the 22nd of July.
Wood chips in run, pine shavings in coop and straw in nesting box. (Currently in dog crate with pine shavings and straw)
Feed - layer's crumb, with evening treats of mixed corn, black soldier fly larvae and a few greens from the garden.
She hasn't free ranged yet.
I haven't had much luck with these ex-bats, one died after a few days, one cut her self on something, and now this!!
Any help would be great!
