Sour crop

Wow, what a nice manual of all the meds!! I'm going to stash this one in my bookmarks. ;)

Ok, this manual days 5-15mg/kgs orally once daily.

BUT, I just found this while searching around in the Mercks manual, 5-15mgs/kg twice daily.

https://www.merckvetmanual.com/exotic-and-laboratory-animals/pet-birds/mycotic-diseases-of-pet-birds (open candisiasis then expand diagnosis)

Hmmm....which one is right? I've got a bird with a very severe yeasty doughy crop that nothing cures. I went to the vet yesterday and got some of these Fluconazole tabs 100 mgs each. I don't know how fast they kick in but I gave the bird one dose yesterday (25mgs, shes about 5 pounds) and there is no improvement yet. Should I use twice a day or be patient? :barnie
What did the vet say?

My vet is not necessarily great avian vet although his assistant knows a ton. She unfortunately was not in yesterday. :( The vet did tell me that yeasts become very immune to these drugs incredibly fast, hence the Copper Sulfate or any vaginal creams are no longer working on these yeasts. Alternating them as you would wormers is the key which I have never done with yeast issues.

He told me the dosage for Fluconazole was 5-10 mg/kg once a day. But being that birds usually need more than other animals and that he is not yet an expert on chickens, (his assistant has convinced him to continue his education to include birds, he is learning :) ) I am thinking the every 12 hours is the correct dosage. He did say to keep her on this for 14 days even if it clears up in a few days.
