Sour crop

Not sure on your night of looking through sour crop threads if you came across this one Shell. But this one does make mention of ginger. Just a peep. Speckled Hen in this one looks like she has a down pat regimine for her Sour crop episodes. She's usually a pretty good, sensible and reliable poster here on BYC.

Hello All!

Glad you are keeping on with the mash and any other soft foods! I know my chickens think mash is a treat compared to their regular food.

your right all the girls think their getting fantastic treats every day! being real little piggys, its there, and its gone! lol
i really wish i knew if she laid that egg too! though strangly none of them laid today

think there playing games with me lol.
ive never seen any of mine lay! not even once! they could be nipping off to the shop in the wee hours and buying them for all i know! tee hee

well shes been emptying well again today and i increased volume of food gave 5 big bowls of mash today and they scoffed it every time like they were starving!! maybe its still not enough? thou i dont want to rush it! when her crops full it feels liquidy, it not its just the watered down food but it still makes me nervous! as soon as shes eaten im willing it to empty! keep trying to see her poop too but its like she cant go when im watching, praps shes shy lol, i know shes going but id like to see which ones hers, oh the things we wish for!! lol
normally they have food availible 24-7 and i want to leave mash out for them to pick at through the day but they cant resist eating the lot! then if i put more they just eat all that til they are fit to burst(not good for bombie) so now they are getting set feed times. lol
all in all life is good x ill check and report in the morning. x

Okay, you've so figured me out Shell.

I AM drama. Gosh you know I hate people that are drama queens too. LOL. But I know I'm a hypocrite...Hahahhaha. I know I'm bad because I hear my daughter droning on somedays in the most annoying whiny whines--and this is me. My little "mini-me."

yes my husband will confess to all of that, too. My attention to detail with the chickens makes for good eye rolling around here from him. plus he's wondering if he will ever get his shirts and pants pressed for work...because so much time is invested in those darn chickens. One time I made them this wonderful "flock block" made with his homemade apple sauce (in which he just about lost it when he found out after), apples, cinnamon, and then mixed grains and their crumbles. The house smelled like the most drool worthy apple pie you'd ever smelled in your entire life. I caught him before he started cutting a piece of those special bars. LOL. when I told him it had chicken food and egg shells and such in it. He gave an explicit word or two, eye rolling for me using his apple sauce-- but I think it was mostly because the chickens were getting delicious baked goods and he wasn't. LOL. I for sure know I am obsessive about these chickens.
When I was building their coop...i was addicted to it. Hahaha. I'd come home on my lunch breaks--eat an apple and saw and screw up boards on the walls and roof. Completely bonkers for the chickens.
Love my dog too, but she's had to even stand a side to the chooks.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one and that I was good for a good laugh. Grinning at my computer right now. This one is for you and Bombie:

my son is so stubburn if he dosnt get his way he just repeats himself a hundred times then screams and crys when he finally realised youve stopped listening! hubby says thats me all over! lol gosh im not painting myself in a good light here! lol. hubby actually built our run and it would have been half the size but i kept taking out mugs of tea and'checking in' then slyly moving posts over a bit! he knew my game of course but luckily i think he finds me amusing lol.
now ive got him building a new coop, big walk in shed one as little one just wont do! ha ha. lucky he loves me!
love that cartoon! luckily for bombie she lives with vegans! lol

well i freaked last night, took last meal of the day out and checked her crop which of course is my obsession! and could feel a great big lump in there! cant be certain, without x ray vision, but felt like a wood chunk from the run!why oh why does she do it! felt way too big to pass through! im thinking about getting rubber tubing from vet and flushing and all sorts! woke up today, its gone!!! thank crunchy for that.panic over. may have squished her a bit with my joyful cuddle!lol so shes doing well. not quite normal crop but def working one. hoping crop bra arrives this week. belive it will be a very useful tool. shes holding her own with the others now and comb is looking better by the day! yay! think shes gaining weight but vet will be able to tell me for sure. tried to weigh her in kitchen scale! did not go well lol. fingers crossed on that but do think shes gaining strengh :)

Moving the posts for a bigger run. That's so funny. I can just see it as you give him his tea with a wink, LOL. I built a monstrosity of a run too...and dipped into my husband's 2x4 supply for our home improvement project. Well actually used them all.... errr hmmm. Project not done in the basement and Roger and his chooks are super comfy. My priorities are warped for sure. LOL.

Im thinking that the physical help of that bra will help with the mechanics inside her crop to be sure. Little rascal. I have a Wyandotte that just absolutely hoovers everything and she "ba-wahs" on and on asking for more.

i think i share your warped sense of priorities! we should be ashamed i guess but we both know we dont!lol

i wonder if thats bombies problem! eating random non edibles!! ive started throwing grit on the floor of the run, a handful a week. she cant be trusted not to eat another whole bowl full of grit! and im putting oyter shell in small quantities too thou she dosnt seem so interested in that . shes def a bit odd. shes so cuddly now thou, i thought they all were but now shes so tame i realise that they arnt really that fussed for a cuddle ect. she'll come over for a snuggle where as they just tolorate me lol

Shell3!!! I think that is the way it is SUPPOSED to be!!! There should be a hard crop in the evenings and then gone in the morning!!!

sfg- yes you right but it wasnt the whole crop..the crop was soft cos of the watered down food but there wss just one hard piece that i could grasp between my fingers. felt like a wood chunk! praps it wasnt but either way its gone new lol
crop was empty this morning and hoping my crop bra will arrive this week. it should help a great deal with faster digestion. im gonna give some scrambled eggs today and start thickening up yhe mash. very nervous to do it but think she needs more pellets and less water to really gain the weight she needs. still alls looking well so far and i feel weve really turned a corner.
