Sour crop

thanks pwand yeah poops normal some bit runny but then shes eating runny food... some solid ones too. problem is if i used a small one it'd be no good for sucking feathers up and i dont wanna keep putting it in and out! im gonna see how crop is in morning if its not emptying ill have another go with the big tube. just need to wrap her towel a bit firmer and stretch the neck nice and straight then i know im good and hopefully can keep her nice and calm. think i faffed too much before i did it. need to just get on with it! feel i did right by her thou .stopping i mean cos i didnt wamt to continue while she was stressed. thou getting a small one might be a good idea anyway then i have the option to use it. thanks xx

When I flushed out my girl I did it myself, nobody holding for me. I always started with the wrapped but, she usually wriggled out of it by the time I was done. By no means did she like it being done but, she put up with it. Tip #1 don't let go. Keep her as tightly held/wrapped as you can without interfering with the tube/crop. Tip #2 don't allow her to close her mouth while the tube is in. It is not highly likely but, they can bite off the tube. (I've heard of it happening in animals...I'm a vet tech). Tip #3 You can do it! Just keep trying.

Good luck!

Shell: I don't think you need to be too hard on yourself. It was as new to her as it was to you and if you have to do the next one she hopefully won't freak out as much. I'm thinking you probably got more in than you think, judging her reaction. Things seem to be progressing well for Bombie today anyways on the crop and I have a good feeling about tomorrow AM for you. That crop may surprise you tomorrow.

Hopefully you don't have to get too much practice at this but, I'm guessing you'll both be better at it the next go. Technique tends to improve with each instance you do something. Everybody seems to know what to expect. You know what I mean.
2 tube sizes seems like a good thing to keep in stock.

thanks all tigertrea-great tips thanks. i actually think i might do a better job holding her myself no pressure of being watched!lol must admit the kids didnt help! "what you doing mummy" why she need that ect.
crop didnt empty last night. i need those feathers out!! argh!
bogtown- just get frustrated with myself but next time im not gonna panic half way throu and take it out!

well bombies crop wasnt empty today but smaller than last night. some foods passing but can feel bif wodge of feathers in there still and they feel like big ones dont thinl theyll pass. tube has been unsuccessful so far . my vets back on fri. if i havnt cleared her by then it will be down to him one way or another. tube or knife i want these feathers out! shes eating drinking pooping and running about. also no sour crop. just this blockage now,or partial blockage. so will update when i have news x

I'm thinking it would be hard to align large feathers up and into that tube and then pull them out of the tube down into the crop. Sorry to say. She might just need the small incision to get them out. Tube will be good for flushing and what not if sour crop recurs. But She might just need the surgery to remove the block. Get this over with for you, Shell. You've got a fun project of a coop to outfit and work on.

Enjoy your snow that's coming! Kids will have fun with that! We've got a beautiful 2 new inches right now and counting. It's really fluffy and beautiful.

shes not looking too hot tonight! they have almost constant supply of watery mashed food as if theres no food bombie imediately eats c**p, dirt, feathers, bedding ect! downside to this is today she has overeaten. crop is full and heavy and clearly uncomfortable. ive not brought her in for vomiting as the more i remove her from the flock the more they bully her. it makes treatment decisions hard to call. today i went out luchtime to check her and her comb was bloody! when i cleaned her up there was just a tiny scatch as far as i could see. no mayjor damage. i susspect the cause to be a peck from another hen but could be wrong as i didnt witness it.however i put her back out and watched them close as i could all day. they chase her a bit but i saw no attacks or the like. tonight they roosted all squashed up together so i feel they arnt excluding her completly. thou i worry about keep taking her away from them. im hoping crop will reduce a lot over night thou being empty has become a far off dream :( if its liquidy in morning i will attempt to vomit with hope of seeing some feathers in the mix but we'll see. just wanting to cope best i can til vets fri morning.

afraid by the way i dont enjoy snow! lol weve had one lot already and kids played went on sled built snowman and threw smowballs and thats quite enough thank you! haha trouble is here in england, the minute it snows everything closes! vets included!! so as beautiful as it may be,and i admit it is, once a year is plenty ;)
