King Arthur Flour sells powdered starter off their website, if you want to try some variety or if no one else will send you some starter. I don't have any right now. Sorry!!!
I got a dried one with instructions from www.carlsfriends.org. They have a starter that has been kept going since this guy used it on the Oregon Trail. It's free, only takes a stamp and envelope. Mine reconstituted just fine and has worked well. www.sourdoughhome.com or www.thefreshloaf.com are both good sites for help. The first one is all about sourdough but the other is all things bread (and then some!) Good luck!

Send a self-addressed, stamped (44¢) #10 envelope [SASE44] to:
Oregon Trail Sourdough
P. O. Box 321
Jefferson, MD 21755 USA
A #10 envelope, also called, in the USA, a "business-size envelope", measures about 9-1/2 inches by 4-1/8 inches (24 cm by 10.5 cm). European size DL is close enough. If such an envelope is not available, simply send postage (or currency as below) plus your postal address, and we will provide an envelope.
Please write your address carefully and neatly. When filled envelopes come back marked undeliverable, there's nothing we can do about it.
Normally, it could take up to six weeks for your start to get to you, but it probably won't
Carl's starter is my sourdough culture of choice! You can't beat the price (a stamp) and it has worked well for me for years. In the past I have tried many times to "catch" wild yeast to make a starter, in different houses and locations, but it never worked for me. Then I read about Carl's 1847 Oregon Trail sourdough and bingo! - we have a winner! I won't spend $10 on starter from Russia that will probably change over time as it is exposed to different bacteria in my local anyway and won't be Russian anymore.
I just went to Miss Prissys website. I noticed that in one picture the top of the sourdough is pinkish red. That happened to mine and I threw it out thinking it went bad.
