Mary - an update on my BP silkie eggs - I had 8 fertile, growing eggs and 2 partially developed eggs (with a death ring). The other eggs were all clear. Out of the 8 growing eggs, I had 6 beautiful chicks hatch. One chick pipped and died before hatching and the other egg didn't pip (it looks like it stopped growing at week 2). So out of 24 shipped eggs I got 6 chicks. Not too good but they are very beautiful chicks. Next time I get a hankering for silkie eggs or babies I think I will drive to Susanne's.

Just wanted to share for those of you who might not be on Facebook - I have a new member of my farm family and we're really excited about him. We added a HORSE!! I got my son a Haflinger gelding as an early birthday gift. He's taking riding lessons and is doing great with them.

That is a pretty horse. I have 4. My sons when they were in school used to show horses. We had alot of fun but I dont miss going to all the shows. I loved to watch them with their trainer. Good luck to your son.

My son is actually learning natural horsemanship training and riding. I can watch the trainer for hours working with a horse. It amazes me what she is capable of doing without even speaking a word outloud. I still have no desire to show - horses, chickens, canaries etc. That aspect has never appealed to me. I am trying to learn everything I can while Jonah takes his lesson though.

I so love my little Wyandotte! I so hope she/he makes it to adulthood. She is the only one in that pen of silkies that seems to be having problems with cocci--isn't it strange that the ones we like have problems. She is eating good today and preening again so I think she is OK--notice I am calling her a she--wishful thinking!

I hope she does ok too. Is she pretty dark in color? They are like my cuckoo marans as far as color goes. The darker ones are hens, the roos are a little lighter in color.

I went out to get eggs and had 7 eggs in one box...normal...but they were covered in egg guts....I found no broken shell fragments at all...just a sticky pile of eggs. All of my gals seem fine and I saw no obvious sticky butts so I am wondering what you guys think happened? I am worried about an egg broke inside a hen....
