Lost my Tiny Self Blue OE last night...she has only ever laid me one egg and Friday she was in the nest box when we left for Newnan...when we got home Sat it was dark so she was on roost...Sunday she spent all day in and out of box and looked like she was straining and was all puffed out so yesterday morn I put her in a sink of warm water for half an hour with no luck. Then I put her in a crate on a warm pad and she ate and drank well. I had hope because she looked like she was feeling better but still no egg. Then at 4am she had what sounded like a seizure and by time I got to her she was passed. She must have been egg bound but I am not sure what I was feeling for trying to check. She was nice and meaty, clear eys/nose,no trouble breathing, and no sign of mites. I wormed my flock about 3 weeks ago.

I was told by a breeder that this was a problem to watch for when I bought my other gal who lays all the time...he talked me into a bigger gal of his so I would have a good layer since my guy is so small and I will sill get small chicks.....

I'm sorry, Sam. I know she was one of your dearest birds!

I'm sure I have a Marans and Ameraucana boy somewhere around here! I actually have a black Marans boy that is breeding age. His tail is a little too straight up for me so I'm not going to keep him. Otherwise, he's great! I have some juveniles as well.

Their house is absolutely beautiful! I could spend all day outside on the porch and deck, I think. The first time Lou Ann took me over there, she had 15 chickens. As you saw, chicken math hit! They are a wonderful family and only live about 10 minutes from Lou Ann and I. You will have to get some blueberries from there this summer, for sure.

I am already planning a trip back during blueberry season. I have bushes but they are not old enough to produce very many berries yet. I can't wait to see her yard during the summer. I know it will be gorgeous.
My dh and I built our house. I know how hard ours was. Theirs is amazing. I can only imagine how much hard work it took to build something that beautiful and well designed.

Amy that cochin you are using as a avatar is beautiful. Is this one of your project chicks? I don't know how you have time to do all you do but wow all I can say is you did a wonderful job. If you need to find this one a good home, I'll take it and spoil it rotten.

Nope, she is not one of my project chicks. She is from my original Mottled bantam Cochin pen. Her mother was a show bird and her dad ain't none too tacky. She isn't my most correct offspring but I love her. She isn't going anywhere. I now have 4 breeding pens of these lovely Mottleds and a waiting list for eggs. They are really wonderful birds.
