your very lucky and they still use the nest.what do you think the other people is doing wrong.

I have no idea why it works for some and not others. My 80 year old neighbor was collecting his guinea eggs (for me) with a long handled spoon that he had made just for guinea nests. The guineas quit laying everytime he found the nest. He told me what was going on and I told him what I was doing, he couldn't believe it. I just didn't know any better. When I first started raising guineas I didn't know not to touch the eggs. I've always left a few eggs so they'll keep laying, but I do take those out and mark them and put them back. I tried baiting the guinea nest with a few bantam chicken eggs one time and they rolled those eggs right out, wouldn't leave them in there. But they did keep laying in the nest. For mine, as long as they don't see me find their nest it works. If I get caught messing in the nest, they usually will quit laying there.

My Blonde and Blue Chick (thinking about keeping this roo)

I know I did not have any problems with the hen that was sitting last year that I got from Joy. She would hiss and spit at me but once she was off the nest I gathered most of the eggs, popped them in the bator and left her some to hatch and raise as well. She went right back to the nest and sat on the ones I left her (I only had that one girl at the time) and she did hatch and raise 2 babies. Well, she hatched more but the hawks got them the first day.

Right now my Guineas are laying in the chicken coop or duck coop. I gather them every day. I suppose they will find a nesting spot soon when they want to incubate themselves. I have yet to find space in my incubator for any Guinea eggs. The lavenders have started laying and I have orders to fill so after opening the eggs to make sure they were fertile and test tasting them, I am trying to fill those orders. I may hatch some off this year but believe it or not, I am hoping I can let them out to free range in late summer. It isn't even real hot yet and I am already tired of watering everyone every day. Blasted algae is taking over!

Oh, I could have swore I had only one or 2 Guinea hens in my free range flock. I am getting 3 eggs a day so there is some butch girl in the bunch. I swear I can only ever spot 2 girls.......

Okay, officially a nervous wreck again. I hate shipping birds. For the next 2 days I will do all I can to keep my mind off of my babies being in a box headed for South Dakota. Geez, and they weren't even ones I liked but still, my babies.
I am trying so hard to get my numbers down so i can help Leah with the garden this year. It is bigger than previous years except when my dad plowed and cared for it.

We have a bit more work to do to it yet but we are getting there.

Joy, I must say this is my experience too. I they see me get into their nest, even with a long handle something, they will not come back to it. Guineas do not have a very good sense of smell but they have great eye site and if they see you in the nest they desert it--at least mine do here. That is except when I have them locked in the pen and they have not choice of where they lay.

And boy are they laying now!

The chocolates are laying in the black barrel in the trampoline pen every day. I tell them they are good kids and I retrieve the eggs every day. I expected to fine them all over the ground but I never have found any outside of the barrel....yet.

I wasn't sure if in the spring the Guineas laid just anywhere until they felt the mothering instinct come on and then decided on a nesting area to lay and hatch their "brood".
I am just waiting for the Guineas to chase the big Jersey Giants out of that nesting spot since they lay in the same place.

Love the garden!! Now you have a place for all the Chicken Poo

Yeah, you see my big blue copper Marans out in the middle fertilizing it, don't you? LOL That is a blue copper hen closer to the camera.

Our neighbor finished plowing it up today and it is like a nice powder now. We have a lot of plants and seeds ready to go in now. DD and DH wanted to get out there tonight and work in it planting stuff but DD had supper to cook and DH was helping me feed and collect the eggs. I think we will start on it tomorrow afternoon after I get back from the food pantry at the church.

Williams Mill has a lot of plants for sale, too. We may get some more tomorrow. I think we only have 4 bell pepper plants and I know DD wants at least 6 more. But we have a ton of stuff to put in.
