You are right about the fence...I was not home to move her to afternoon field friday so she kicked and busted the wood fence and moved herself!! She can be a snot!

I would borrow your horse, But I think she would be unhappy in my little yard, she would probably break down my fence. And knowing that dog, he wouldn't even come over because the horse is there. He is sneaky that way. He only comes over when no one is home, when my dogs are locked in the house. I saw he was digging a new hole yesterday, hopefully my barricade holds up on my side. I just wish my neighbors weren't so inconsiderate/uncaring/lazy/inattentive/(choose the word that best fits, there are a lot of them, some more colorful than others.)

I have a coop question for you guys since you live in the same general area as myself.

My husband and I have almost completed the run. It is more like a stall in that it has 3 solid 8 ft walls (one concrete and two wooden privacy fences) and a fenced front. It will also be completely covered with clear or opaque roofing panels. I know that predators are the number one concern and we are doing everything we can to keep them safe and sound by burying wire fence 3-6" under the fence line and using hardware cloth along the bottom and top to keep the coons and other critters out.

We are trying to decide what kind of coop we need. My father in law has suggested building a 3 sided coop with the front entrance open. Do you think that a 3 sided coop would be adaquate protection for them in the winter? I can put plastic sheeting on the front of the coop to retain some heat also if needed in the winter if it gets really cold.

Thanks...I am not sure myself...leaning toward the BB from the pics...she is not a bantam though...or she is big...but then she is half the size of my RIRs and double the size of my OE banty gal? I guess I should put a sign up for a found hen and see if she gets claimed...I would be upset if one of mine got lost! If no one does her egg color will determine where she will fit...she wants in my BLRW coop which will be fine if her egg does not look like theirs so I do not have a hatch/sell mix up!! My free range gals tried to maim her...but I know I can put her in with Amers(def no egg mix up there) or maybe the Sumatras! And depending on her personality maybe with Scrappy...he does like the big ladies! LOL She just has to get along with his little lady!

All my coops have a full open side atleast...some have other sides that are half wire also...keeps them cooler in Summer and we put plastic on in winter...I have not lost any to cold but this past winter was our first with the big coops and it was not really a winter to go by!I know some have fully enclosed and some have coops like mine...I went and saw some others set ups then made my decision!

Samantha, full size game (which are not real big birds) are colored the same as the bantam counter parts. The wheaten hens are just a little lighter than the BBRed hens as the Roosters look very similar but with lighter, more golden hackle and saddle feathers. She should lay a tan egg and it will not be real big. We raised games for years, before I started with these other breeds--one of the reason I thought the OEGB's would be fun to raise.

Check out my "Housing" page to see all the coops I have.
My birds live out in some rough conditions but as long as they have wind protection they are fine. Birds come with their own insulation though I do have some sturdy coops and a nice shed for some others.
It is a huge page and I have added a few coops that are not on there but the majority are there for you to see. It should give you some great ideas and the prices all vary on what I have for my birds.
