Just had a great visit with Buster!! We are going to bug them this weekend!!

Hi Red Buggie!!! Been missing you around! Mom said you had a bad week...hope all is better!!
It is better--now I have 2 shadows following me everywhere when I am outside. I so love those birds--I know better than to get that attached to a chicken....

Thank you!

Amy Sorry for your losses.

OMG I found another snake today. I almost stepped on it. Saw only back half of it go thru the lattice under my honey house. (half was 3 foot long) Another big one. We were not able to find it.
It took off fast. My big foot must have scared it as much at it scared me. LOL I put lots of moth balls and sulpher out around every where. My nerves just can't stand any more snakes.

Hope everyone's Sat. is a good one.

I'm so sorry girl, I would be freaking out if I saw a snake anywhere. I really dislike snakes.. My DH found a good 4-5 foot snake skin near our coop about a week ago and brought it in to show me and I about freaked out. My DH knows how I feel about snakes but likes teasing me about it. I hope the sulpher and moth balls works and keeps the rest of them away..

I would let you borrow my 18 pound Siamese Tom cat. He loves a chicken to death. he guards mine like a doberman. Even I have to pick up the cat before picking up a chick out of a brooder box. He will hurt anything over a chicken or chick. I wish everyone had a flock protector like him. But I still lost 2 ( one Rhode Island red chick and one barred rock )this week myself due to hawks. He dosen't mess with those.
I lost 2 Silkie chicks yesterday. I am guessing one of the neighbor cats is coming over because I also found a nest with all the eggs eaten, shells left but insides gone so I have to catch and take more to the shelter.
The 2 Silkies were beautiful little splash babies, only 10 days old, out running around with mama hen. The dark blue is fine but the 2 splash are missing and this is the same area where I just lost 2 Mottled chicks, around 2 weeks old recently. DH said snake under the shed but the cats are forever going under there so I don't think so. None the less, sulfer is being put down under there this morning.
Could be Crows, I suppose but 2 chicks with a very protective mama hen makes me think a cat is coming up that does not know the rules of the farm. I don't tolerate that. Like Sam, it has gotta go! Hope you get your dogs today, Sam, so you can sleep better tonight.

we've got a hawk that got at least one of my girls and then I had a second hen dissapear ( she had been sitting on her nest in the pasture next door ) and I found a puff of feathers the other day.. so sad... colton was in the woods the other day and came face to face with a very large. unafraid.. Coyote... not good when they arnt afraid.. unfortuantly he they coyote was on the neighbors land so he had to let him go..

my teenagers are getting big and my next age. I guesse they would be toddelers.. hahaha... they are growing but looks like 2 of my who knows what they are chicks are looking very very roo-ish... I got them from tsc.. they looked like little chickmonks. but so many breeds start out that way.. when they get up and start getting out of the gauky age I'll post pics to have a big guess off, of what they are.. All my chicks that I bought at the chickenstock are alive and well.. Had I known that they were gonna be there from the nc hatchery I would have waited and got all my chicks from them.. well except my barred Hollands I can only get them from Ideal hatchery.. it just kills me that out of 21 I have 4.. yup 4... ughhhh......I may try to order some more towards the end of may.. they really are my favorite. .

. I missed that they guy with the blue jersy giants wasnt there this spring chickenstock hopefully he will be there in the fall.. and I may be able to have some to traide. or donate.. as we have won chickens each year I would' like to donate a pair of mine for someone else to win.. I just love winning chickens.. even if i didnt really need them.. but Amy Nadine has taught me chicken math well.. haha... she and Sam,( dixiebeast) ha ha.. seams crazy that it was a year ago that i got my first chickens and met all these wonderul people here ... so glad I found ya'll..

and Im sorry again about he loss of your chicks.. .. I need a chick protector. too.. my dane will protect the chickens and Morgans ducks

unless they leave the yard and then he cant..... but he figures that chicks are different they are bite-sized morsals that must be eaten.. and he has...

Just dropping in to say Hi! I have not left just been really busy. This evening we are going to pick up a dog kennel we found on Craig's List--my big excitement for the week. We have so many baby chicks right now and I hope to get time to share some pictures soon. We have more Dorkings in the bator along with Faverolles, bantam Wyandottes and some sdw OEGB's--My finger are crossed Joy!! Of course there are a few guinea eggs in there too!

I have not had time to read back through the thread but I did see that you lost some chicks Amy and I am sorry to hear that. I really hate when someone disappears around here and I do not know why. I lost a one eyed guinea hen I had for 3 years and I am really bummed as I do not know what happened to her. She was such a sweetheart. Hope you find out what got your babies!

Could your Guinea hen be on a nest?
I have 2 girls sharing a nest right next to my house and another nest started by another Guinea hen right next to the ducklings grow up pen. I am glad my Guineas stay close when they nest.

No worries. We will make a way.. things always work out in the end LOL.. :)

Things will work out. Just hang on a bit longer. I am sure you will get it all done. It is great to have stuff offered. I just went over to Jackie's this morning and picked up a sheet of plywood and a bunch of wire for more pens. Now to find time to build with it! But it will be done. We just have to have patience.
