My friend in the NW who is holding my hand through all this says I should try eggs from different sources. I have a friend in Laurens who has had good hatches say that she will collect some eggs for me. Also there is a person on Craigslist show girl?. I could get some of her eggs. Maybe I could get some eggs from some of you? I started this(we homeschool) kind of as a fun project. It did not turn out fun. Most people say though that you just have to learn from your mistakes and try again. I want this to be a positive experience for the kids and me! So any tips will be helpful! I am not looking for show quality or any breed in particular. We have a barred rock chick. BTW I tried medical tape on its feet but he pecked that right off! lol! I will try the band aid but I need a smaller band aid than what I have--it is an angry bird band aid which makes me laugh!! It will be nice to meet you all! Neat to meet others with chickens!!

Lil duckling didn't make it :( I have no idea when it pipped today since I was at work..so it might have been trying for a long time. Plus it didn't help that it decided to pip on the wrong end. Overall, it was a bad incubation since I had to stick it in my old incubator and the thermometer in there is really hard to read. Better luck next time I guess! My broody is still sitting on 10 call duck eggs and 4 chicken eggs so about 2 more weeks and I should have duckies and chickies. I'm going to take the call eggs from her and hatch them in my brinsea though. I don't trust the other chickens not to peck them to death.
Lauren, I am sorry to hear about your little call duckling.

Hatching can be challenging. Don't despair. Sometimes it takes quite a few times to get a great hatch. Or do like Moonchild and don't expect anything to hatch and wind up with more than you imagine hatching out!

Oh, Lauren! I hate to hear that! I know you are so wanting these ducklings to hatch and make it. Maybe the broody will give you a good hatch.

Lauren, I am so sorry for the ducky. Incubating seems to be a challenge at times.

Avonshire, WELCOME!!!

Would be glad to help you with eggs. I will say the incubation is a learning curve. The incubator itself can really play a role in it. TEmps and humidity.

BEst of luck.

Amy, your child has an attitude to boot lately. He is in the DOG HOUSE.

I just had to share that DH finally built us a grow-out coop :) Yay.. My oldest babies are graduating from the brooder tomorrow (weather permitting).. So now we will have 5 left in the brooder for another week or 2 ?? (not sure on ages exactly).. But the main issue is we have to get a duck coop built immediately.. Please don't get me wrong I love the Pekin Ducks, but they are super duper noisy and messy.. Where I usually clean the brooder once a week, I"m having to clean 3-4 times a week due to the ducks..Ugg.. and this week has been hard to keep up since Faith has been PASS testing all week in g'ville.. makes for long days for sure..

That is cool!! You need to get him to build a prettier versoin of my outdoor brooder with the light box!! I can move out chicks at 2 weeks to there!!

You're right..that would be nice. I may just drop a bug in his ear on that one LOL.I don't mind the chickens in the house as much as I do the ducks.. I do believe it's going to be a little while before we venture getting anymore ducks..even though I've had my eye on the khaki campbell ducks (they are just too cute)..
