I think the worst Sumter has to see just passed. There are reports of tornado sightings and possible damage. I'm sure we'll have a full report by the evening news. They say this crap should be clearing out of here this afternoon.

yes the size. actually the length. I have it in the house with ducks in it right now so it is rather messy....but they have plenty of room in it to get under the light, away from the light, and run around a little without walking in food or water.

It looks alot like this one but is rubbermaid....

Those are the kind I use too. Nice and tall on the sides so no one pops out! The storm missed us I think. Heard a little thunder and saw some lightening around 2am, but all looks fine. Wish we would have gotten a bit more rain though!

Is everyone ok? We just got rain here in the southern part of Greenville County. I didn't even hear any thunder, and I am a light sleeper. I only slept about 4 hours last night so it must have missed us.

Four little chickies are under mama now with one more hatching. They are so tiny and cute!

Thanks Jack. Those Speckleds I got from you are growing pretty good. One thing I have noticed with this breed from my pullets and yours is that they tend to grow and mature a little slower than other breeds I've raised. The Delawares I have mature very fast. I mean, by 1-2 months you will def know which is a rooster and which is not. Their combs and wattles develop very quickly as far as roosters go.

Now that our supposed bad weather has passed I have put the GLW and her 2 ducklings out in a little tractor. That poor hen is scratching and talking to those "chicks" but they just won't scratch like her!

She is showing them the dirt and grass but they are still not getting it like chicks do.

And the other 2 ducklings have hatched under my Silkies this morning! They came early! I thought I had a few more days and did not even get the chance to put a warm damp cloth under the hen for the extra humidity but I guess the humid weather has helped. They both hatched out wonderfully. Haven't a clue what they are. These 2 under the Silkies are blue/yellow fuzzies and hatched from green eggs. Can't wait to try and figure out what breed when they feather out.

Now I have 4 more duck eggs under the Muscovy due to hatch next week.

I ain't even going to talk about chicks.

Oh no, Susanne, I do not do it for the chickens. Ducks need higher humidity to hatch well, supposedly. They have much thicker shells and membranes and the female ducks go swimming and then come back in to sit on eggs while still damp so that helps them but chickens are drier and on the last few days before a duckling hatches you can really hear it in the shell working to get going. I worry I will have it too dry and they can't hatch so I place a warm damp cloth on the nest then put the eggs down and then the hen can sit on them. Seems to work well to have them hatch.

You are good with yours unless Guineas need higher humidity but I doubt it.
