Another Aiken-ite here..."new egg" with 2 RIR and 2 ?sex links (is what I was told but they don't look like SLs I've had in past) Am excited to have chicklers again - has been about 7-8 yrs - and I agree with the comment I read elsewhere("hard lessons") that that Easter egg hunt feeling never leaves you when getting the eggs...my "normal " friends just DON"T understand! can't wait for my ladies to get acclimated and a little older(maybe next month...) and start laying. and I am going to have to submit a picture of myJack Russell "guarding" them - and I do believe they think he is a chicken too... some Jacks make a funny chuckle noise and he does and they are obviously more unhappy with me around than with him( oh...coop and run ARE Russell-proof! - we only had one minor tail nipping incident, second day, coop needing new inside latch when I am cleaning; Russell is a WORM) this website a wonderful find!

got all the windows open, enjoying the weather tonight. Turned off the AC just have the ceiling fans going. Feels soo good. Glad I'm not the only one enjoying this. Putting the chickens to bed tonight I noticed I'm missing one of my banty hens, not sure where she went no sign of her, no feathers no nothing...hmmmm she has always been an independent one though, I've looked all over. I saw her when I let her out this morning......

Chickens are addictive! Can't have only 20 or so!

Karen, I hope you find your little girl!

A friend of mine had a hen disappear. They searched high and low, and no sign of her. She suddenly reappeared 6 weeks later- with 8 chicks!

While cleaning the kitchen this morning, I hear a ruckus with the hens I look out and madam I'm not coming home is out there chasing the others off the treats..... time to weed the garden patch as the weeds are higher than my head and I'm 5'1. So disaster adverted and I'll got hunting a bit deeper and see if I can find her nest.

I found her and her nest, silly hen has been busy. She had 11 eggs she was hiding from me. I'm not using my horse stalls at the moment and she decided the shavings under the feed pan in the corner was better than the nice happy nest boxes in the coop I built. I removed her eggs I tossed them all. I did the do they float or sink test well they all kind of floated, one exploded in the trash... EWWWWW! stinky. I have 10 acres and I'm up to 10 chickens now, there's lots of places for them to hide and since I'm not using the stalls and that hen grew up in a horse barn she decided it was cozy for her.

Silly hen.....
