Are you feeding your chicks medicated feed? That normally takes care of cocci. I always give the medicated feed at the beginning and every once in awhile even to the adults. I've hatched many chicks and have gotten a few from TSC with no problem. Sorry you're going through that!

No they were never on medicated feed. I have them on Corvid now though for treatment. I have such a heavy case of it you would think I have a chicken hatchery on my property. I already lost two chickens to it. And I still have two Easter Eggers who are in poor shape, but seem to be coming around now.

Just not good for me. My coop isn't done so I have to keep them in crates a few more weeks. And I have everything from barred rocks to seramas and Cochins. :O

And I live in a neighborhood with only 20 chickens on my property and nobody has ever had chickens on the propert before. Ahhhh! I want to get a chick to celebrate the completion of the coop in a few weeks but afraid to introduce any new birds and not sure how long I'll need to wait to rehome some of my roosters.

When will you have blue laced red wyandottes? Are you hatching them out?

I'm pretty excited. My sister just called and asked if I'd be interested in getting the chicks that she and her other kindergarten teachers hatch next week as part of a school project. They hatch chicks every year in the kindergarten classes and then they advertised free chicks on CL to get rid of them. This year, my sister spoke up for me! They're all "meat chicks", so I'll need to build some sort of tractor to let them roam around the yard. This will be my first venture in meat chickens although I've helped my family butcher/dress chickens for years...just none that I've raised, so we'll see how that goes. My husband just rolled his eyes when I told him we were going to get them. I really think he thought I was serious when I said I'd only ever want 3 or 4 chickens at one time.

As a thank you to the school, I think I'll donate some supplies to them. As a side note, its pretty sad the amount of supplies that teachers have to buy out of their own pockets. Don't even let me get on this soap box.

yes i am hatching them now. i will have some for sale in about 2 months. these are not hatchery stock. mine are from some of the top breeders in the usa

Oh no. Sounds expensive. I just saw a photo when I googled them and thought a hen would be a pretty addition to the flock once my coop is finished in a few weeks!

Right now I have 3 barred rocks, 1 leghorn, 2 cochins, 3 EE's, and a definite mutt rooster I got from Treehouse Nursery a month and a half ago (I'm sure you know of it since you're from Sumter) and a TSC RIR pullet that became a rather gorgeous RIR ROOster. And if they ever get big enough I'll have 3 silver phoenixes to put in the coop too and a possible silkie. I have 5 spoiled seramas and a spoiled bantam who won't be in the coop. Too much height disadvantage.
