That's cool. My co-worker made the final decision to get her chickens when she found out Greenville allowed them in the city. We live in the county, but she is on a neighborhood street, but it is one without any covenants. She knew, after seeing the city chickens, she was safe. We have been able to find the city ordinances for Greenville, but the County ones are not online right now. That section is "reserved". Wonder what they are changing....

Okay Nikki, and everyone else that wanted the shipping crates like what I have sitting here and ones that I am remodeling for coops, I finally have the info for the man selling them.

He is actually more in Buffalo than in Union itself, according to my friend. His name is Philip Poole and his number is 426-0060. He is close to Hwy 215. The crates are sitting out in his yard and he has a lot right now but they go quickly.
I am having my friend bring me 2 more big ones and then I think that will be all for me.

Miss Amy Nadine, not to be picky or ungrateful, BUT...

Area code?

Once upon a time, ALL of SC was (803). Sadly that is no longer the case.

For anyone worried about me swooping down and scooping up all the boxes, it took me 12 hours to get home from Amy's house. My parents' house to home is only 8 hours. I'm not up for that trip anytime soon. Unfortunate for me. Fortunate for you. I ask because my brother in North Charleston might want one.

Thanks so much Joycats, Westknollamy, and gvilldh for the help. I'm going to go try to get him to eat some tuna and eggs. There's actually a GNC in Powdersville which is right where I work so I'll go tomorrow

Hopefully he'll get better.

Are you feeding 27% protein? My Marans always require a large amount of protein in some form. Though animal protein has proven to be better than plant protein for them. Marans grow so big so fast they need a lot to help them along and 21% chick starter just doesn't have what they need.
Also, I would not ever add Niacin to their water. Goodness knows how big of a bird you would get from that! It probably woudl not be good for their growth since they seem to out grow their legs anyhow.

We put about 14 young roos all out in an empty big tractor the other day and I had 2 JG roos separated to grow in different pens for a while. Now that the 2 blue brothers are back together it is amazing to see how big one is (a monster really!) and the other is more normal size for their age. I forgot that the one with the Marans was getting the Sporting bird starter and the other wasn't. Huge difference in size. I will try to get a photo today. It is pretty awesome.

I am still not sure I am going to keep a blue JG roo so if anyone is wanting one, speak up now. Otherwise in a few weeks they may not be here.

My chick feed definatley isn't that high in protein. I went and looked and it's only 18%..they're on the starter/grower. He is roughly 10 wks old. I guess I need to make a trip to the feed store and see what I can find that's higher protein. I've separated him from the others and gave him scrambled egg and some tuna. He doesn't seem too keen on it but maybe he'll eat some. He is still drinking and eating though..and since he's seperate now I think he wont have as much trouble getting to the water/food. I'll get the selenium supplement tomorrow. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed that he starts to improve.

Oh, I hope the roo does better.
I had forgotten that canned cat food is often a treat for my 2 month old chicks so I bought a few cans at the store and put it in a dish. Some won't touch it. They think it is nasty. While others climb over each other to get to it. They come up from the dish and have it all over their face and start picking it off of other's faces. It is so funny. Now mine do not like yogurt but canned cat food, fish flavor, has always been something most will try.
Tuna and hard boiled, mushed up egg is usually a hit. I have taken eggs, cracked them into a bowl and whipped them up for the microwave. Lightly cooked and then a touch of milk in them is good for sick birds, too. My Mottleds that get down and can't walk often get this. I always make too much and wind up sharing it with some others.
