Hello South Carolina!

Just a reminder that there are still lots of towns and cities right here in South Carolina up for grabs in the BYC Chicken L.O.R.E. Project!

This is a massive undertaking, and everyone is encouraged to participate! Your knowledge of Chicken L.O.R.E. will earn you GFM Scratch, which are good towards new GFM Memberships, Membership extensions, or Membership gifts.

Remember - you don't have to select a city in South Carolina - cruise the selection list and choose any city still available!

Get started now! Click on the Chicken L.O.R.E. link above for all the details, and remember your Project Managers are here to help in any way we can.

Good Luck, and Thanx for Joining In!

Karen (Prizilla) just took some eggs over to Luann's so I am assuming those are Silkie eggs. I didn't ask her but it could have been Seramas, too. She may have some available now since we hatched out some about a month ago. All those may be for showing though. Yes, she lives in Dacusville.

I just had another to hatch out a few minutes ago. Mine are not pure Silkie since I decided to do Frizzles and Sizzles this year. Some may come out smooth but they are still really adorable. I may put just the Silkies back into breeding later. I have way too many breeding projects going on but it is so fun.

Since I am just starting, I don't have any to part with! Maybe next year! I have some absolutely beautiful Bobbi Porto silkies that are about 11 wks old now. They are lovely! I have 5 white silkies and a showgirl from breeder here on BYC and I just hatched 4 adorable frizzle/sizzle silkies. The two splash look to be smooth feathered and the two black are definitely frizzled. They are about a month old now. I also hatched out 5 frizzled bantam cochins and just set some barred frizzled cochins today.

I should have some babies available later this year but now at the moment! I love my silkies. The Bobbi Porto ones are beyond fluffy and just getting cuter every day. If you need to order some, I would highly recommend her. You can see pics of them all at my blog in my signature.

Good luck on the search! I probably have more white silkies that I need at the moment but don't think I could bear to part with any yet!

Bobbie Porto must be doing well this spring. I have 2 other people in NC saying they just got chicks from her. She does have really nice Silkies but more than my budget allows for that breed.
I know what you mean about not being able to let any go right now. It gets easier when you learn more about their personalities. Some you will bond with and others could care less. I have sold the "care less" ones and kept my sweeties! Well, I did sell a real sweetie but she was busting eggs.

thank you,sc anderson.

OMG! Nice incubator!

I mine is a little giant still air incubator I got from Tractor Supply. I started out with 26 eggs and am down to 24 right now. Two of my eggs had craked.

I put them in 3/3 and candled over the weekend (early I know, but I couldn't wait). So far so good! I cracked the first one when I was checking the water at the bottom of the incubator. The other I found cracked while candeling. Before I tossed it, I opened it to see how far the development was. Nice webbing of vains on top of the yolk with a spot in the center of the vain web. I got so excited

cause I wasn't certain if all the eggs were fertil, but it seems they are.

This is my first hatch so if I get 50% hatched, I will be very pleased.

McNugget how's your hatching doing?

We got 2" + snow this year. Ft Jackson not to far. Come see us have lunch with us some time. RIR are good egg layers can be craby to each other at time's, but no problems. the white rocks and the OB very easy going. I just but in 20 eggs yesterday in incubator they well be 1/2 WR and 1/2 RIR. Should be a very good all purpose chicken! Yes I did build incubator. Also just made a smaller one (75 eggs) for the lock down time. That has help a lot to keep differant eggs going at differant times.
One picture is our silver polish rooster he grown to be mean have him in his own cage. My RIR rooster is the most gentle one I ever had.
