South Carolina

I'm a happy girl - my favorelle rooster is a very happy boy, a chicken angel stepped up and shared some hens with me. A BIG THANK YOU to Debra for sharing her beautiful favorelle hens with me. I really appreciate your generosity. And another big thank you to Amy for being the go between that made it all work for us. I LOVE my chicken friends! I've met the nicest people who always seem willing to help. I feel so lucky to be in this chicken community. My favorelles are doing great. I have one light colored hen who simply adores Justin the rooster (he was named when he came to me). She stays snuggled up under his wing and he's more than happy to be her protector. The other girl is a dark hen who also seems happy to have a rooster nearby but she's more adventurous than her sister. Both are beautiful and I can't wait to have little baby favorelles - of course I won't want to sell any of them......it may take years to accumulate my own flock of a satisfying size.

Thanks again so very much ladies - you made my whole week.

Someone may have mentioned this before on here, but on September 16, they are having a 4-H Poultry Show at Riverbend Equestrian Park in Greenville. It might be something fun to go to and encourage the young group of chicken lovers. Of course, for me, I can go and learn lots of stuff from these kids since I am a newbie myself! I'm still checking on the time. One thing I looked at said 5:00, but I'm not sure that is right.

Believe me, $25 is a good price for blues. Don't let them dicker with you. A hen alone that is blue is well worth it. They will make their money back quickly on chicks that they sell from them.

Thanks Amy. That's what I thought. I'm doing them a favor in the first place selling a hen. I really didn't want to sell one..but the way I see it that just leaves room for me to get another breed I'm wanting

the NCPoultry group on Yahoo is where I get info for that show - Once it gets closer, there will be a post up on the chickenstock section of BYC with who to contact for registration etc.

I think in NC your birds have to be AI tested before showing. I do not think they test at the door anymore for anything.

Here is what is coming up in NC & SC
** 10-29-11 ** Morganton, NC ** Friendship Poultry Club
** 11-05-11 ** Morganton, NC ** OEGBCONC: Old English Jamboree
** 11-19-11 ** Clemson, SC ** Anderson all Bantam Club
** 11-26-11 ** Winston-Salem, NC ** Forsyth Fowl Fanciers Club
** 12-03-11 ** Orangeburg, SC ** Sandlappers Poultry Breeders
** 12-10-11 ** Smithfield, NC ** Cape Fear Feather Fanciers

Thanks for the info Kimberly!

I should clarify that to say NC requires birds to be NPIP & AI tested.

Yes, if the weather is decent we will start around 9 am. No one really needs to help but you are welcome to come and watch and ask any questions. I am not sure we will take more than an hour unless others want to try some of their own hands at processing. But if you do, you take it home. My freezer is about full.
