Just wondering if anyone saw the lady with the chickens on Fox 21 News last night?

Her name is Kelly Lovejoy and she lives down in Columbia. She is huge in the area of homeschooling and they were having a news report about homeschooling so asked her about it and her views on it.

Anyhooo, they showed a clip of her garden and her chickens. Those girls you saw were my babies!!!! She has gotten almost all of her birds from me, if not all of them. She has drove up here several times to buy from me.

I was excited to see her on the news but even more excited to see my babies all grown up in her backyard. She got one each of different colors like Wyandottes, a JG, a Speckled Sussex and even one of my beautiful blue Frizzle pullets. I always say I will visit when I am down there but I never have time for everyone. She is a super nice lady and I hate missing the visits.

I have the same problem with my inlaws over the dogs, cats, chickens,my kids have lionheads(awsome bunnies...u will love yours) and then I added a horse!! That has been a stir!! They can't understand why their son married such a hick they say...OH WELL!! We LOVE our fuzzy, feathered family!!

Enjoy your new bunny...my daughters enjoys car rides and trips in the store...she is very very social and even enjoys a snooze with the dog!! (my killer rotti according to the inlaws!!)

For me - it's my inlaws AND my own family! I swear that I was switched at birth. My own Mother thinks I'm crazy and just cannot understand the whole animal thing (especially pets in the house). Nevermind her opinion of having hundreds of chickens. And now we're talking about adding a horse....I worry she'll send the men in white coats to get me. When I told her I was going to homeschool my son she immediately explained to me why I couldn't because with all my animals in the house DSS would surely take my children away from me. You know DSS visits everyone who homeschools and apparently there is a law against having animals in the house.

All I hear from my mother-in-law is how she doesn't understand how I went from owning such a "glamourous" bridal salon to being a farmer. She even told me yesterday that I used to dress nicer when I had my bridal salon. I told her I'm happier now and that's all I care about. I did own a very fancy schmancy place. And now I don't. Get over it! I secretly think she's jealous of the farm. One of those people who never followed a dream and then kind of resents those who do. Oh, well! No ones stopping me now!

I can't remember.... does anyone else on here raise Marans? I'm thinking about giving up breeding those. I love them, but the group of breeders involved with them seem really harsh. No room for error! I just don't like the whole tone. If it's not perfect, and what bird is really, you shouldn't be breeding. They are a great breed, but I'm considering keeping the girls and moving them to my laying flock and giving up the boys. Then I'd have a lot more room for silkies! I'm not sure I have the time or energy to totally immerse myself in another breed. Such a hard decision!
