Yup, blue.
Here is a blue bantam Cochin chick hatched the other day from the most handsome Cowboy. I thought I did not have more eggs from him but I found this one in the bator. And lucky me, it's a girl!

Perfect pen for them! Plenty big as long as they have places to fly up onto they are happy.

Put a dunce hat on your waterer. That is one reason I am enjoying the milk jugs cut out. They can't poop in it.
The white on the legs should change to black when it molts out. I have never had one to have white feathers on the legs even though it had white chick fuzz to start with. It may be 4-6 months old before you realize it though.

Enjoy those Marans chicks! They are beauties!

Any suggestions on what to make a dunce cap/hat out of for the waterer? I have thought of switching to a milk jug because the 2 hens will not stay off the waterer and I have lots of roosts for them to fly up too.

Thank you! I can already tell these marans chicks are different in temperment than the others and I just can't keep my hands off them! They are so sweet and easy to catch and love on! All but one has good leg feathering too. I hope there is a good roo in there some where--we only hatched 7 but the man that sold us the eggs is sending us a few more eggs for the price of shipping so we can see if we can get a few more. I am very excited about these little guys.

Oh Amy, my little OEGB BBRed spurred me this morning! I think he is jealous of the d'Uccles....

Heavy cardboard rolled into a dunce cap.
A small orange traffic cone (Lowe's has them for about $5).
A 2 liter pop bottle cut along one side and rolled into a cone.
Extra flashing from a down spout or roof instillation piece.
Even the left over tubes from paper towels can be taped together at the top, spaced apart at the bottom and duct taped (I use it for everything!) and wrapped with heavy aluminum foil, can be used.

Get creative! I bet you have some old kids toys that can be converted.

I love fall! I just added some nice photos to my West Knoll Facebook so I will share here, too.

My old stud horse in the back pasture.

A lovely dogwood tree beside my driveway.

My old round pen. You can see it has been many years since I trained young horses. But gosh, aren't the trees gorgeous?

Anyone interested in teaching a chicken class?
jumpy.gif

I was speaking with a local Greenville veterinarians office this morning. They would like to do a backyard chickens class for their customers and employees. They have not done much organization for it yet. Does anyone have any suggestions on who could do a class for them? There possibly thinking of splitting up in the sections, housing, raising chickens, where to acquire your stock, et cetera. I do some computer work for them and they know we have chickens.

It may be volunteer, or paid, I do not know. I can find out more if anyone wants information.

Robert
