But what is more beautiful for Christmas than the love of a family (even a small one) and memories of Christmases past with the parents! (Mine are gone also and I really miss my Mom and Grandmom) All those chickie babies appreciate you too!

Just today found out about an APA show in Barnwell, SC on 12/3 --- Sandlapper Poultry Show!
I don't have the physical address, but it is at the intersection of Hwy 37 and Hwy 278, Barnwell.

Double L Show Barn, Barnwell SC 29812. The date is December 3 and it is a double show, in other words there will be 4 liscenced APA Judges. Two will judge the birds and make their placements and then the other two will do the same. That way exhibitors can get points towards Master Exhibitor of their breeds from both shows on the same day. Give Mark Beasley a call if you want more info. I've been taking silkie pics today.

Susanne, these are my two partridge roos. They have been fighting so bad, I had to separate them. One even ended up in the goldfish pond last week.

These are the babies I've hatched that came from Jenlynn4 and a lady in Kentucky. Since neither of my hens wanted to take the babies, I put Puffy (a roo) in with them. He is doing a good job taking care of them. He came from Amy.

I put 9 eggs in lockdown today and have 20+ to go in Sun.
I am ready to pack away the incubators and brooders.

Thanks! I think that may be the best way to go. I just scored a couple wooden shipping crates from work I am going to work on making a mini coop/roost area for them and now I think I should put it in the dog kennel and just leave the tarp off the top (I do have wire up there under the tarp)...Do you think some fairly large Ameraucaunas will go in shipping crates? they are 4ft x 4 ft x 2 1/2 tall. I thought I would turn one tall wise on it's side for the roost part and one as is for the nesting side and attach together with an open door to go between...hard to draw a picture with words!

From my experience of owing Ameraucanas, if there is any space above the crates that is where they will roost. If you can hook the crates up as high as possible on the wall with roosts inside it might work. My Ameraucanas always roosted as high as they could get in the hen house.

Joy, the Wyandotte hatched last night!!! It looks very grey/blue! There is a silkie hatching with it right now and a silkie waiting out in the brooder to meet the both of them. So will it stay that blue color? It looks very much like the silkie out in the brooder in color. Of course it will not have 5 toes and feathered legs!

My ducks are much better at foraging then the chickens. Even with food still in their tubs they go out in the front pasture to graze but the chickens just stand around the feeders and never leave. I find a lot of food scratched out or in my tall hoppers I find that they have "beaked" it out. They are much better eaters when they have to eat when they are actually hungry.

My tractored or penned birds are fed more free choice but I still measure it out about every day so I know how much they are eating and how much they are wasting. And I try to keep it low enough not to attract mice. In the free range tubs in the barn yard I have to watch for deer and turkey wanting to come up and eat it so I try not to leave much out. It seems there is always some that is left each night that i have to pick up before coming up to the house though.
