So sorry to hear that Susanne, I hope everyone else did okay while you were gone. I've never had any issues between guineas and chickens. The most I've ever seen is a guinea chase another bird for just a bit, not even very far. The only thing I can say is that guinea keets can be a little rough when left with smaller chickens. If something spooked them, they would have piled on top of each other and the little chickens probably got stuck on bottom of the pile. That's the only issue I've had with them. I try to make sure that the chickens are either bigger than the keets or they outnumber the keets - at least until they're adults. I haven't raised them with silkies, it's usually been large fowl. I did have some recently with bantam cochins and they did ok but the cochins outnumbered the keets 3 to 1. When they reached the same size I moved the keets to another pen before they outgrew the chicks.

Susanne, I am so sorry to here this! Guineas very often will turn on their chicken buddies I have found if they are raised with them. I always try to keep mine separate until they are adults and have not had too much problem. The male guineas are the worst as they will kill female guineas they do not like and lower dominance males. I am truly sorry for your loss!

Ewww, I am sorry to hear this. None of my Guineas have done more than chase the chicks from the food dish. Though I am now down to 7 free ranging and the other 14 penned in a M*A*S*H unit. I sold about 35 last week and weekend.
But my Guineas, ducks and chicks all lived in the same coop and pen. My Guineas would fly out during the day sometimes and free range but never hurt anyone other than them being protective when the babies were little.
I never really pen anything with my little Frizzles and Sizzles though. I know how delicate their skin is without much feathering to cover it.

What a sad way to start your Thanksgiving. I hope the day improved.

I had a nice Thanksgiving hatch yesterday. There were Sizzles, Frizzles, white bantam Cochins, Marans and Mottled Cochins to hatch. With all that was going on I forgot about them til today and had to switch around some chicks quick to make room.
All was good though because we changed a lot of pens around today. I put 12 black copper Marans hens in a new pen with my splash roo since he is doing such a good job with the 5 he was producing with. And some bantam Cochins got moved around and I had to catch up all my LF extra roos because a man called and wanted to buy them all.

I didn't even advertise because we were going to put them in the freezer once we had a bit more room.
I was able to move a lot of my growing up chicks out to the brooder coop since the penned Guineas are now housed in the M*A*S*H unit near the barn. Gosh, that slate Guinea sure does look different from the other blues and lavs I have.
And I have 2 Guineas that I need to take photos of, Heidi, for you to tell me if I have the colors identified correctly. They look like chocolate mixes. Really pretty!

I just put 18 in the hatcher today.

If I sell eggs I like to set some of them to make sure they are viable and that is how I got the hatch yesterday.

I know Yancy is really missing his while he is in NY. I posted on my Facebook, too.

Miss Janie, I hope you found me on Facebook. I am running 6 tabs on the computer so it was hard to answer the phone. Texting works great for me. I am also setting up a few ebay auctions while doing all this and have the TV running in the backgrpound. I am yawning enough to hurt my jaws so I must need to be in bed. Just had to show off a few of the babies.

dixie beast....I got my first egg today from my young d'Uccles!! They just turned 6 months old!

Of course, then DH and I had to argue over setting it. He wanted to put it in the bator and I said no. It was a fairly nice size for a beginner but I do not need babies from them right now. We shall see how the winter goes. I will probably set some in Feb.
