Does anyone here know of a good place around Greenville area to get some turkey poults this coming spring?
I would like to get some but all the mail order ones I saw had the minimum of 25 of them. I can only have 5 the most...

Kris and Robert Harner have some of the best I have seen. They are awesome folks.
I know that Rachel has some but I have no idea if she is going to breed and raise them (Ha! Bet she does though!)
And I am for certain going to hatch and raise but I have such a long list of people waiting on mine I am not sure if I will have extras.

Okay my dear SC peeps, it is almost Show Time!

Our Winter Bash is about to roll around and entries close next Monday, Jan. 20. I have all the info on our club website but anyone with questions is welcome to PM me and if I do not know the answer then I will find out for you.

Word has it that someone is bringing Showgirls as an entry! This will be a first!

This is an all breed bantam show. We will have plenty of info available at the show and if you would like to know how a show progresses, I made a chart and posted it on my FB farm page.

Even if you do not enter any birds, parking and entrance to show is free. Please come see all the different breeds of poultry and ducks. Birds will be for sale inside and outside of the exhibition hall. We will have Tshirts at the show, we have a raffle and Clemson U. has a concession stand right there.

Please join us on Sat. Jan. 25 for a very exciting day!

Thank you christine9! We picked up a Little Giant incubator today and we're doing a lot of online research. We're looking forward to it all.

Hello everyone. My husband and I have purchased our first home and we're planting our roots here in Sumter, SC. We have about 2.5 acres in the county with a grape vineyard, and we can't wait to own chickens, peafowl, and some goats. My daughter is getting ready for her first science fair project, and we're thinking this is a great excuse/opportunity/motivator for us to finally have chickens! We're wondering if anyone in the area might have 3-6 fertilized eggs for hatching (looking for brown egg layers) for purchase or free if you're happy to donate. We don't mind driving to get them up to an hour commute. My husband works in Bethune. We're hoping to get started on this project soon....within the next week or two. I'm sure I'm more excited than our kids.

OMG your birds are beautiful!! Thank you for the info :)

I do also have turkeys, but I don't know if I'm going to be breeding anytime soon. They are pretty young still.

And check this out! A bald eagle showed up to our 4 acre pond today, attracted I assume by the shad dieoff we've had (which is a good thing! We didn't even know we had them in the pond, and they're supposed to be in larger bodies of water anyway, that's why the freeze killed them) and hung around for a while. Thankfully, with all the free fish dead on the shores, he didn't pay any mind to the chickens.

Hi! We are moving to the Ft Mill/Indian Lands area and we are looking for properties. We found something of interest but I can't make sense of the zoning. I want chickens. Why have acreage if we can't do anything with it!?! Especially raise chickens! So far, it seems that the specific zoning is "R15" and it didn't look like I could have chickens in that zone. The property has 4+ acres though, so it seems strange to be unable to do anything on it except have a house. Does anyone know if I can have chickens? Or where I can find the ordinance? The main address we are looking at is on "Baynes Wood Lane, Indian Lands, SC". If the zoning prohibits it, does anyone know if there are any petitions to change it - or can a zoning change be applied for? I REALLY want to be able to raise chickens and I really don't want to buy a house in an area that prohibits it (the fact that they are prohibited anywhere amazes me!). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

You could just call the county zoning office. I wouldn't give them an exact address though, maybe a neighborhood name or a nearby intersection?

Hi Amy, I was about to get in touch with you to see if you still have your Araucanas...... But if I come see you I will have turkeys on the brain then. They are beautiful!

I have one pair of Araucanas left. They are pets. They were just a really messed up breed locally with people breeding in tails and messing them up so when breeder/exhibitors offered me good money for my breeders, I sold them. I keep the one pair that I had produced who are my babies.

Turkeys are certainly trying to take over here. I love them but they are costly to raise if you do it right. I have to keep my numbers low. I will be hatching and selling poults this year. Turkeys make the best pets though not extremely helpful with chores, though they certainly are good at hindering. I have had a few folks tell me theirs were mean but so far so good on mine.
