Bring them inside for the AC!

Just kidding, that would be a mess.

I sometimes set up a box fan for them, when I can't let them out of the runs. If it gets really bad, I put a bag of ice in a tub in front of the fan. It cools the air going to them. If you can let them free range, they will find cool, shady places for themselves.

In fact, they will always find your favorite plants and dig a nice deep dust bath in the roots.

It's funny you mentioned the AC. My husband and I were thinking we could always install one in the roost, a little window unit.

I'm hoping I can have them free range during the day, just don't want them to get into scuffles with the neighbors outdoor cats.

Thanks for the advice about the fan and ice. We'll give that a try.

BTW - I just found some Bantom Blue Wheaten Ameracauna's. We'll be adding one hen to our flock as well. If anyone wants the extra chicks, let me know.

Hey Geared, today is the big chick giveaway, right?

Right

Good grief, I just looked at the map for Salley- I was just in Neeses last week, where I rehomed all the roos!

Hi guys, I haven't checked out this thread lately. Too busy making chicken cages for my peeps and taking trips to the hospital to see my BF. If you ever get a date set for us to meet up, let me know. I will have to ask for that day off work and have to give at least 4 week notice to even hope for a day off......

Nadine, I thought you might like to know that a LOT of my chicks are going to be rumpless !!!

I bought some pullets from TSC and one of them is pure white with small TUFTS !

Do you think if I cross her with my rooster any of the chicks will have tufts too ?????

Hi Nola!!!
How cool is that? Lots of rumpless chicks!

Good luck with getting tufts, that is very difficult. Of all the ones I have hatched out, I have never gotten a tufted chick but I have several hens sitting on more eggs now.

All we can do is keep trying!

I am so glad you are growing your flock out. Boom Boom must be so proud.
