I didn't think JG were supposed to go broody at all but last year and this year several of mine have. I tried to let them hatch and raise them last year but the big brutes smashed the eggs on some and when the chicks finally did hatch on the others they killed them so I don't let them try anymore. I have too many nice Cochin or Silkies that are very careful and decent broody hens.
Though I have heard of others letting their JG girls hatch and raise broods, it did not work for me.

And yes, Karen, I will be here tomorrow afternoon. I'll have fresh eggs for you. I had deliveries in Greer today so I am all out but will have plenty more tomorrow afternoon for you. I always like visiting with you!

Hi everyone! I am new to this thread, hope it is OK if I join in! I am in Central, SC. Up near Clemson! I have a small flock of 29 chickens & 6 turkeys! I have had chickens for about 2 years, so I am still kind of new to all of this.
It's great to see everyone that is from SC!

I am feeling kinda left out on here today. Looks like everyone from SC decided to post on here. Thought I'd check in too!!! lol

Ok....now I feel better!!!

Wish someone close by would have some peafowl eggs for sale. I just don't want to pay a fortune for them....

Stay cool.....Tink

Me, too! I can see some beautiful birds roaming the farm. My dog that killed our nine silkies doesn't seem interested in the chickens anymore. I let the Marans and Ameraucanas free range and he just walks on by. Guess I was successful in desensitizing him. My other dog, a big ole black lab who's deaf now, just lays right down among them. They'll brush up on him zooming by and he doesn't care at all. My other dog was a huge source of stress since I wanted my chickens and the hubby wanted the dog. Hopefully he'll continue on this right path!

If you find some eggs, let me know. I'm pretty sure I can hatch them in my incubator. And it's empty!

Susanne...I will let you know and do the same on your end. My bator is empty too. We have about 75 chickens at different stages....I think I am done for a while. But peafowl would be so fun.

We have a big dog and when we moved here we inherited two goats. He still would love to eat them I think. But with the chickens he is very protective. When we got the babies we had them in the house and told our dog that they were his babies. Now he gets in the middle of them when they are fussing at eachother!! It is so funny.

Stay cool this weekend.....it is going to be hhot!!

Howdy! I'm in Greer, and will subscribe to the thread. I don't know about peafowl, but I know where to get guinea eggs for $10 a dozen. I just hatched a couple of those and another dozen chicks. Puts me over the 50 mark....and right into the officially obsessed category.

Welcome to our SC thread, momofspoiledchicks and bigdaddyabc!

The more the merrier on here. We love to hear all that is going on with your chicks or chickens and what plans you have for them. Eggs, meat, yard candy etc.

I am still planning on visiting you Nadine. I will be back in SC on Monday and will begin working on finding time to drop by. I will call first. I would love to have those 2 Welsummer hens that are left. If they are still left........
