I am the one whose daughter had to have a T-shirt this morning!

We really enjoyed it. Hubby picked up some nice quail

It was awesome meeting the lady from Wadmalaw Island. She has BEAUTIFUL seramas.I fell in love with the barred one!
Hubby could not believe I left without any. I told him if I knew I at least had a temporary pen for them I would have gotten 2 or 3!

He waits til we are half way home to mention fixing me a temporary pen.

I definately look foward to adding some seramas birds hopefully next spring - unless he decides I have enough before then LOL!

We moved just north of Aiken recently. Just starting out with chickens.

Haven't been here for awhile. I need some info. I have a hen sitting on some eggs, that I hope will hatch soon. Will she take care of them when they hatch or do I need to put them in a box with a light? I've only bought pullets when they were babies and this is what I did with them. I am so excited to be having some new babies. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

I am by no means an expert but my opinion is:

Most (I think) hens will take care of the chicks.

HOWEVER I also think it is a matter of circumstance & preference as to whether or not to use a brooder.
I think if the hen & chicks are separated from the flock, they will be fine together in most cases.
You should keep an eye on them to be sure though, and have the brooder ready just in case.

Personally, we use incubator for eggs, and brooder for chicks. I may try letting a hen sit on some at some point, but right now this is just our preference. Also we have no broody hens

I just wanted to share a great source for chickens. I met a gentleman by the name of Wayne Crawford he lives in Hodges, SC. He is a little north of Greenwood right off Hwy 25.

I just got 2 Gold Marans, 2 Barred Rocks, 2 White Leghorns and 2 Gold Comets. All of the hens were born early this spring and are pretty looking girls.

He's got a couple hundred chickens, goats, fish ponds. He's got it all. His farm is certified and He is NAIS registered State of SC and Clemson.

I'm posting his information with his permission, please tell him I sent you.
