I'm glad you got yours done Snick! I went and got tins at Hobby Lobby, they're half off at my store right now. When I got to Lowe's, the stuff wasn't exactly what I had expected. I wanted to purchase the porcelain part with the plug already on it, so I didn't have to muck anything up doing it myself. Turns out they didn't carry what I was looking for, but the manager was awesome - he went and pulled the stuff off the shelf and fixed it up for me right there at the customer service counter. He was great about returning the other stuff, and even gave me a discount because the parts by themselves were actually more expensive than the part I'd purchased online. I was so tickled that I even called the corporate office and gave the guy kudos. I hope he gets recognized. I'm off to go make my jello shots for the party tomorrow!

See I knew Dipsy would have a dark colored EE . Yep Dipsy Hubby made me a heater today...and since I know you are crafty I bet you could make one too!

In Aug/Sept I also got some birds from him. Pair of SLW (Silver Laced Wyandotte) & a pair of BO (Buff Orpingtons). Mine are not laying yet either, but have way more than doubled in size. I think he said the SLW were almost 2 months old when I got them-to me they look to be about 4 months old right now. The roo has been crowing for several weeks now. My BOs were only 2-3 weeks old when I got them, so definately not old enough yet.

From what I have found on BYC, usually after 20 weeks, some breeds start laying.

There are ways to break hens from being broody. You could search for them on the forum...I am no help there since I have never done that...yet.

Check your county codes - you can do it online at municode.com . You could kill it legally. In my county, they have a farmer's authority code in section 6...
"...Sec. 6-20. Authority of farmers.
Any farmer who finds a dog on his property in the act of chasing, charging, attacking, biting, leaping at or destroying any cattle, sheep, horses, mules, goats, hogs or domestic fowl, and which exhibits fierceness or hostility by snarling or the bearing of teeth or the bristling of hair, may kill such dog, even if such dog wears owner identification and rabies tags, if summary destruction is necessary to prevent injury to such farm stock. Any farmer acting pursuant to this section shall be deemed to be acting in furtherance of this chapter and to be vested with the authority to destroy such dogs.
(Ord. No. 592, 7-8-96)..."

I am going to assume same for cats if any more come in my yard.
