Lisa,

Do you have any blue-eggers?? The wife would rather have blue eggs vs green. Or is there a real difference?? I'm not too keen on EE chickens...

Not I Nicky, but thanks...I have my bator running and hubby would kill me if I started with ducks...lol But thank you!

Lisa did you have to knit little neck warmers for those NN during this cold spell?

I wish! DD loves ducks. All 3 of my incubators are full right now...... about 75 eggs (diff colors in each incubator)

- I could combine .....but DH would kill me

Although he said "no more silkies until what you have hatched grows up". He did not say no more ducks.

I better pass right now too......just to stay out of trouble so he doesn't take my incubators...( even though I did take them from him

I am not looking forward to the farm chores tomorrow or Monday. That cold blast is going to be rough!

I guess I will fill all hoppers and go ahead and mix up a mash so I can just add hot water both mornings and make them something good. I have some hard boiled duck eggs already, I'll mash that up to go in the warm mash. I always feel bad for them but I did cover all the tractors yesterday so they will have some added protection from the harsh wind. I suppose they will just sit and gossip all day or do their nails. Not much you can do in bad weather.

Anyone else doing stuff to get ready for this bad blast?

Hi! It only went down to 38* here last night, no frozen waterers! It's cloudy and we got a spritz of sleet for 5 minutes this morning. Tomorrow and Mon are supposed to be ugly.

Actually, nothing special for the NN's during the cold --- they have been as hardy as feather-neck birds.
Eric, There are some NN in the brooders and I'll get pics for you. I sold all the older ones except what I need to keep as breeders.
John, There are some black Ameraucana girls out there that should be laying soon if you think she'd be interested. That's about as blue as it gets here (I call it blue/green/teal/aqua.)
Here are some eggs for comparison. 'A' is Ameraucana, 'C' is Cuckoo/Barred, 'NF' is Naked Neck Frizzle, 'SFGE' is silkie feathered green-egger, etc.

Margie, the blue-ish frizz girl should lay eggs like the ones marked 'NF'.

I'm setting 4 doz+ eggs at noon for the New Years Hatch . BUT first, I have to clean the hatcher from this weeks hatch and move the eggs in the incubator (duck and chicken) to it.
I'd take you up on the duck eggs, Nicky, but I've got Pekin, Swedish, Ancona, Muscovy (M's JUST started laying) going in the incubator.
Brooders need cleaning today --- smelly, smelly ducklings!
Stay warm!
