Yikes! It was 21 here.
I forgot to turn the water containers upside down last night so all the water was frozen in the drinking lip. That was a mess to deal with this morning. Twenty five containers of frozen water. Good thing I had extra water containers so the most difficult were just traded out.

And now I hear possible freezing rain on Wed. night into Thursday!

We did have flurries here last night but nothing accumulated. I would trade that for the wind, though! I live in what they call Little Chicago......partly due to the high winds we get all the time. I know they are everywhere right now but I just hate the high winds. A lot of my birds were not allowed out today. And the coop of chicks were not allowed out. All the ducks went back to bed after drinking and eating so I know it is rough! They go outside in almost any weather!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

The wind is fierce, but at least the sun is shining! Thank God for *small favors*.
I'm wishing I'd built a few of those waterer heaters this morning.

Eric, I'll do my best to get pics of what's available in the brooders today. No NN's or green-eggers coming in the next hatch (15th) and very few in the NewYears hatch --- everybody just about quit laying.

Yeah, just a little bit on the chilly side! Gah! My little serama babies are still hanging out in the aquarium on the dinner table with me. They were having a ball lastnight, chasing little floating pieces of dander. They're starting to hop and flap their wings. I think only one of the five is frizzle.

My marans hatched out her first baby sometime today! He's solid yellow, and huge! I scooped him right up from under Mom and brought him inside to live with the seramas. He's not feeling so good at this point, I'm hoping he's just cold. I wonder what he is? Got to remember to bring home some little tb syringes tomorrow. Happy to report that my cookie tin water warmer is holding liquid, not solid ice! Yay!

Thank you dipsy that will be great i love pics. I guess if i get some it will have to be after the new year. I will have to build a brooder for them. How many different breeds do you have ? I know i want some NN and EE but if there mixed thats fine. Thanks E

Not sure if I ever warmed up today after chores this am...but I am loving the tin can water warmer...one less then to worry about in this cold. Still have the young frizzles in the laundry room, they are enjoying life now if I could just teach them to fold and fluff. We got our new coop delevered yesterday...now we have to figure out how we want to attach the runs to it. Still watching the bator like something is going to happen (I know I know I have at least 2 1/2 weeks to go) And tomorrow is suppose to be COLDER! Hens all hung out in the coop today...unless I walked out then of course they had to run over to the fence to see if I had more oatmeal...spoiled rotten! Hope you are all staying warm!

It was super cold today! We have 110 acres on the highest point in Greenwood County with hardly any trees. The wind just flies! It's like the frozen plains out there. A few of my little chicks were tumbling over in the gusts. Everything was frozen. Luckily my pump was working and I could refill the waterers. Hope it warms up... at least up past the freezing mark. We didn't get any snow. My little 2-wk old babies are doing fine in the coop. I have the windows closed and a low heat lamp. So far, so good!

Stay warm!

Just reading Snick's post about the chickens being in the coop. I have three coops open, one with a heat lamp. None of over 100 chickens were in the coops. I have no idea what they are thinking! They were all just out in the run, blowing everywhere. Then looked at me like, "Dang, Mom, it's cold!" Sometimes the chickens just crack me up.
