South Carolina

my son called at 7:00 A.M. monday morning to tell me he had 22 ckicks hatch out of 24 eggs . 20 bc marans and 2 partridge pendacencas. he has my old styroform incabator.he moved to hampton s.c. about 18 months ago and wanted chickens. so i gave him all my bc marans and pendasencas for his start. he has had the best hatch in that old incabator i would be lucky to hatch 60%.i am proud of the hatches he has had with that bator. he needs to give me back some chicks, for me to get back started in the marans and pendasencas

Awesome new, Phoneman!

I found two dead chicks this morning in the run. Not sure what happened. They were little but had been doing fine. I have a coop with a heat lamp but these were just lying in the run. Maybe they got trampled. Ugh! Not fun.

So so so ready for some over freezing temps! Are we getting ice or not? What do you think?

How exciting Phoneman....I will be happy if I get 1 frizzle out of these 15 eggs

Sounds like he might have some chicks to send you!

No I am not ready for ice slush snow or anything frozen! Actually have everything ready but sure don't relish the idea of feeding in that stuff...

And it is still cold as the mischief.
I don't think it will be too bad in the morning but now they are saying another blast is supposed to hit us Sunday. Geez! I've lived here all my life and it hasn't been this cold in almost 30 years! I suppose it is cycling around again but I would have been happy for it not to!

Hi guys, long time no post for me

I'm sorry about your chicks, huckleberryfarm.

I'm halfway between Greenville and Greenwood- I don't think we'll see much ice at all. At least not here in the southern part of G'ville County, maaaaaybe in the northern part. I'm really hoping we don't, because this week is crazy enough for schools without having a short day the day before Christmas break.

I am glad to have a thread to complain about our cold temps in without someone from another state saying, "Oh, so sorry for your 18 degrees, here it was -149 with a windchill of -180"

It'll probably be 70 degrees on Christmas Day!

ME TOO!!!!!!!

It IS cold. At some point, the level of cold just becomes a nonissue. If you're nose is running, your hands are frozen, the chickens water is frozen, you can't get warm.... does it really matter if it's 15 or -10? Not to me!

Stay safe everyone!
