Just when you think everything is going right.......

the bator messed up last night! One of the screws came out of the turner arm and I had to pull $110 of eggs out of the big Sportsman to fix it. It seemed to take forever because of the crazy way these things are built. I really need to get my design patented so I can build them and sell. Once you have to deal with a Sportsman you realize all the ways a bator could be better.

When all these eggs are hatched in another 3 weeks, I think I will just tear down the Sportsman and revamp it to suit my needs and then maybe get to work on my own.

Ever try to put your arm way into the back of a Sportsman? It is a horrid nightmare.

Not to mention switches and wafers! Can they make it more complicated? Ahhh!

Okey, dokey, through with my rant now.

I have 12 babies that were hatched on Halloween in the garage cage waiting to go the big pen. The roosters are trying to crow. Do you think its time to move them? Because the DH is about to have a fit if I don't.

Its a yucky rainy day I had so much to do and im stuck inside watchin it rain. Oh well i will get caught up on some BYC!!! After the new year i will have my new coop and run finished and im going to get some more chickens. Hey yall check out my page its got my new coop on it.. E

It depends on where you are going to move them to. I would not put them with big chickens since they will get picked on a lot but if you have a wire pen that they can go into inside the big coop and the big chickens can't them that may work. Pu their water and chick starter in there to. They can run out with the big chickens but if they get too picked on they can run back into their wire pen. Still, one could get hurt. Just depends on your set up and chickens.
I still have lights on mine at that age but they also can go outside into the run if they want to. That way they don't get too chilled, I hope.
If you have them inside a coop without lights that would be fine as long as they are kept out of any draft.

Hi everyone...Eptiman the coop looks great....how many more chicks are you fixing to get? Join me in my obsession...I ordered from Mcmurray the other day...I have lost my mind

Nadine how is the bator coming?

At least the weather seems to be holding. I moved the little frizzles out to the coop the other night...they still have a heat lamp if wanted but they sure are enjoying running around with the other chickens...and they certainly have caught on that the white bucket in my hands usually means NOODLES

They are right there at my feet clamoring for their share!

Lorrir how are the baby chicks..still in the garage or have they moved out?

Hey yall..... well i want 50 chickens to go in my new coop. The coop is 7'x8' and the run is going to be 20'x20'. Do you think 50 will fit and be ok?? I have been expermenting with a homemade incubator out of a old cooler and a light bulb and some pc fans. What watt light bulb does everyone use and how do you increase the humidity?? I guess i will have to get a rooster and get some fertile eggs to try to hatch some chicks but mmmmmm i could buy some fertile eggs from yall and get lots of different breeds. What is the going price of fertile eggs if i come and pick them up??? Let me know.....E
