South Carolina

I am in Spartanburg County also, the big city of Duncan! LOL I will be playing "catch up" with all of my chicken/duck duties this weekend. Trying to dig my way out of the mud and playing musical birds, moving some around to bigger pens etc. Also cleaning nest boxes and topping off shavings. AND I have some chicks due to hatch which is always exciting.

Congrats Nadine on getting your new pen up, that is an accomplishment. I have put together two of them myself. They make great chicken coops, LOL. And that is great news that you're getting black duck eggs, are those Cayuga? I love all the different colors and sizes of duck eggs. My call ducks are laying really well and I hope to have the first babies hatch next week. Fingers crossed. I'll be turning my new blue muscovy ducks out into their big yard this weekend and hoping I did a good job with the wing clipping. I'm excited about the possibility of muscovy ducklings very soon.

I hope everybody has a very sunny, warm and productive weekend.

Yes! I can't wait for the warm weather tomorrow. The mud is finally drying! My chickens have gone crazy laying. We got over 40 eggs today: blue, green, chocolate, pink, tan. So pretty! Collecting eggs never gets old. I need to get some breeding pens built and am trying to decide what I need/want. I have three lavender silkies that are looking beautiful. I plan to breed Wheaten Marans, Ameraucanas, Lav silkies and B/B/S silkies. So ready for some warmer and drier weather.... but not summer!

Great new coop! Looks fabulous! I know you will enjoy it!

She's hatching some JG's for me and I'm excited for new chicks!!!

Oh I seriously need to measure out my coop and see how many hens I can put in there with the new run on it...Cause I have soooooo many co-workers and friends that want fresh eggs! Honestly I have about now 14 people that want a dozen and told me they would buy them on a regular basis...ok so here's the math the Big Coop is 10w x 12deep x 9H and the run will be probably 5Hx8Wx10deep(not sure yet but somewhere in there) and they free range for about 2-4hrs a day(depends)sometimes longer sometimes shorter...So how many hens do you more experienced chicken folks think I can have...Oh Large Breed Hens that is?

let it be a high number I love my girls!!!

John, the new coop looks great! I'm sure your chickens will be very happy in there. Great job!

Susanne - I want some lavender silkies! I love my silkies, they really are the sweetest birds ever. Nadine, the little white silkie chick that I got from you is already mothering all of the other chicks in the brooder. It's so funny to see her "sit" on the little bantam chicks and cover the bigger ones with her wings. I say her, not sure but she acts like a mother. Her name is Dumpling. I'm loving the blue sizzles too, they are very sweet. Eggs are growing in the incubator, I'll let you know when it's hatching time. I will no doubt over do it tomorrow. Plan to visit my chiropractor on Monday (with a dozen fresh eggs). : )

I'm not close to Summerville, but I know where you are and I love to visit Charleston. My husband just finished a project down there on the high school.

I agree that chicken people are the best. Ya'll enjoy your weekend, I have chicks hatching! Gotta put together some new brooder boxes.
