Well, I can tell you my girls do jump up towards me but that is because they want treats. The boys never posture at me but they do peck my finger when I admonish them. The girls just make jumps at me because I feed them from my hands and they want something every time I go in the pen.
It would be very awful if you had a bunch of boys. We looked so closely at those combs, too!

Looks like we are in for more snow up here come Thursday morning. Probably not a big snow but it did thunder the other night and in most cases it seems to work out that way. I have seen a few times in all my years when it did not.

At least it will be clear on Saturday for the show up in Morganton, NC! Anyone else here going to the show?
I have to pick up a roo from Judy Gantt and I will look for more hens or pullets in several breeds while I am there, too. I am rearranging birds so I can make an isolation pen or two, just in case!

New marans and silkies! Notice the two yellow chicks..they came out of the maran eggs but sure don't look like BCM!

Snick, those 2 yellows came from Silkie eggs. They are definitely Silkie babies. You can tell from the black legs and the crowned heads.

Amy not the little yellow ones in front but do you see the yellow one in the back? All the silkie chicks were accounted for and I saw that yellow one come out of a marans egg... have another one just like it. I had 7 silkie eggs and 5 hatched and the other 2 are still in the bator at the moment. All the rest of the eggs were from marans...Have to get a better pic of the 2 yellow for you!

Ah-ha! I was wondering about that. I looked at that first photo and saw Silkie.
Those will be splash. He probably has blues running with blacks, right? He got a blue copper roo from me so I figure he is running him with the black coppers. You can blue, black or splash from that cross. Better photos would help but from what little I can see, it looks splash.

Ahhh a blue or a splash would be nice! Just wish I could sex them as well as the BCM...it looks like I have 7 hens and 3 roos and then the 2 yellow!

I have a few growing up but I bought the eggs specifically for splash outcome and was not disappointed. I will be making my third Marans pen this year. Splash over black copper is 100% blues.

We went out yesterday afternoon to look at the end coop where I am currently keeping my ducks because we are going to make it into a brooder area. DH and I were looking it over and deciding how we should arrange things and then looked up at the hens going to bed (JG like to go to bed early) and lo, there sat a cat gossiping among the girls!

She was sitting on the top roosting board admiring the action on our side and talking about doing her nails with those big old hens!
