Another thing.....Purely Poultry...do not order from them!
I placed an order back in January for chicks to be delivered the first week of March.
I never heard back from them about a date but they took my money just fine.
The first week came and I still heard nothing so I emailed them. No response. I emailed a few days later, still no response so I went on here and PM'd a person that works there since they are a member. He was quick to respond and said he would help.
Yup, sure did. Found out that half the order could not be filled because the hens aren't laying well.
Hummmm, wouldn't it have been nice to know this 3 weeks before when they set the eggs?????
Okay, so we decide to substitute with different chicks instead, though I really wanted some breeds they had. That was okay, Strombergs loves me adding to my order with them!
Well, today, I finally get the date when my order is coming from Purely Poultry. Wait for it...wait for it....(after all, I have to!) ...the ship date is May 5!
OMG! I now wish I had canceled the order! It went from a March delivery to a May delivery!

And this is why I usually order from Meyer Hatchery. I have not ever had problems with them! This is the 4th or 5th year I have placed an order with that hatchery.

I have pickled eggs only once. My husband loves them and asks me for them but I don't eat them so ..... guess they're not on my priority list.

Besides, I sell the quail eggs faster than I can produce them. And my 6 year old will ONLY eat quail eggs (not chicken eggs) so I try to keep some for him. He loves the teeny tiny deviled eggs. They really are cute.

And they taste good too.

After doing research all morning, have revised my wishlist for breeds -

Delware
EE
Wyandotte
Plymouth Rock
Speckled Sussex

All seem to have gentle tolerate personilties and all seem to handle heat well and since I live in the South AND have 2 kids that think chicks are just the cutest hing ever, I need friendly birds. My friend has a RIR and I can't stand the darn thing! It pecks my shoes, steals my horse feed, stands in the water trough....I could go on and on!

Now the question is will these breeds mesh well with my current flock?

Oh that is a bummer Amy Nadine! I hate it when I have to utilize the P..P..P...PATIENCE thing!!

That "P" word is a very dirty word in my book.

I ordered from Mt. Healthy Hatchery last year and was really happy with the chicks but the customer service was lacking a bit. They didn't even send me a confirmation. When I placed the order, they gave me a tentative ship date and it was within the same week. But I learned the chicks had shipped when the main PO in Greenville called and asked me to come and get the peeping box with my name on it. All the chicks survived and have been very healthy. I have some chicks ordered and I'm very excited about them. If they should change the date from March to May I might be little upset.

The white rock hens are great broodies.

I like my silver laced wyandottes, they are friendly birds. I had a Delaware Roo for about a year and he was a nice guy, but I couldn't get anyone to sell me any hens so I sold the rooster. Felt sorry for him being all alone. He was very pretty though. I love my Americauna's, beautiful birds and alot of fun.
