Oh wow!! I have been extra-extra busy for a couple of days and everyone has been saying such nice things about my honey and chickens. Thanks for all the kind comments.

All my bee ladies are wonderful workers and produce some great honey.
I eat a little honey every day for my allergies.

Pints of honey are available.
Also have a few of the 6 oz creamed honey left Amy.
I have to make up a new batch of creamed honey but just can't find the time.

I am trying to figure out a way to add more hours to my days.

I enjoyed meeting Joycats. We both love to talk chickens.

I was about to come in the house at 9:30 and Jolie went to the brush pile and nosed out a Khaki Campbell that had gone broody in there! Blasted ducks are layers! Not broodies! They did not read the rule book! I did! I know these things now but they won't listen when I tell them....eggs, eggs, eggs!
Jolie walked her back down to the barn with her complaining the whole way. I opened the coop door and she went in. When I take Leah to work at 6 am

in the morning I will come back and get the eggs out and cover the nest so she won't go back.

Four blasted broody ducks! I got Muscovy because they are broody and the other breeds are supposed to be layers. Where is that danged old rule book? I am going to rewrite it in DUCK!

Mine is the black barred cochin. Only thing is......no eggs to give her.

I may slip her some chicks. Or some duck eggs due to hatch in a week.

Hey Ya'll. For the past few days I've had my thoughts that I may have a broody hen on my hands. Well, yesterday I pretty much confirmed that thought. Went in to collect eggs and there she was protecting her nest...from me & the other hens. SO, here's the kicker...she is a Rhode Island Red!!!!

I have to collect the white leghorn, BR, BO, & RIR eggs to sell for hatching to someone this Sunday, so I'm going to stick some EE under her and see how she does. She probably won't like me taking her eggs, but maybe she'll subside if I at least replace them with some others. This is my first time having a broody, my gma had one a couple months ago and her BO hatched out 10 BO & BR chicks.

WISH ME (& Henrietta) LUCK!!!

Mary do you go to the downtown Greenville Farmers Market? I'm right near furman and I would love to buy some honey from you! Do you have raw honey as well?

All this talk about broodiness and I decided what I want for my birthday this year. An incubator!

just a small one. Nothing fancy. You know one I will fill with eggs and whine about needing more room a couple weeks later. Haha.

In other news I'm sick. Who gets a severe cold in June? It's keeping me from my animal duties. And right now I have a bat I have to nurse too. Yes. A bat. I wear double gloves to hold it and such since there is a high rabies risk. My boss originally said wow...you have a baby bat?? Just dont get bit or spit in the face. A couple days later. "why do you still have that thing????" I think it's timer husband and I get rabies vaccines.

but yes. Feel like poo when I have a damp tub my young birds are sitting in. Someone knocked their water over. Tossed my cochins outside. They probably did it. I am too icky feeling to be outside hosing things out. Will have to get the hubby to do my chores today. He's going to be frustrated

MARY! I need to meet you and pick your brain about bees! I have wanted some for the last two or three years and haven't taken the plunge yet. I research furiously (like most of us do) before I get into something, so I really would love to visit your farm sometime. I am near Simpsonville, and grew up in Oconee County, so Pickens isn't too far at all, if you accept visitors!

Amy, I want to come see you too sometime!

OK, question- my broody cuckoo Marans hatched 6 chicks yesterday and one last one was pipping last night. We moved her from the nesting box to the broody box b/c the chicks kept tumbling out of the nest box. They're all ok, amazingly. Of course she stopped sitting on the pipping egg. Anyway, this morning it had zipped but was terribly cold. Brought it inside and helped the chick hatch. It's a little EE or EE cross. It seems to be doing ok- it's dry and cheeping very vigorously and moving around. I swear it keeps pecking at my fingers like it's hungry. I put a little spotted stuffed dog beside it and it pecked at the spots on the dog

I'm going to set up the brooder for today b/c mama hen tries to kill it when I take it out there. Can I try to slip it under her tonight, or just forget about it and brooder raise it? I don't want to take a chick away from mama to be its buddy, but don't want it to be by itself. I don't want to order any more. I have no idea who would have 2 or 3 guaranteed pullet chicks available right now. ARRRGGHH!
