Storm.........wait. I think I remember that. LOL

I remember thunder & lightning and rain.........but not much, it is like really fuzzy. An ant got on me outside yesterday and bit me 9 times. ONE ANT. Luckily not a fire ant cause here I am still! I did take my last half dose of those premeasured childrens benadryl thingamajigs & a couple of excedrin. And laid on couch rest of time. Or rather until I fell asleep around 11 or so.

It was raining here early this morning

OK a 24hr UPDATE...Well the Chick is doing great!!! She's walking and even running with the others
yippiechickie.gif
She is about 70% better so 30% more to go

and I'm so Happy!!! And I found out you can buy capsules of selenium and add it to their food. But the injection works alot faster! SO if she gets 100% better then remember to help the chicks with the Wonky Leg!!!!

Awesome News!!!!!!! Happy for you and your baby!

Pink I hope you find your missing babies??? I don't know what could have killed your one~ thats strange. I hope you can figure that out... this may be a completely stupid idea but

If it's a hawk what if you took some shiny pinwheels and put them along the tops of the coops and see if the spinning and flashing glare may intimidate it from coming close?? They are real cheap at walmart or the dollar store it may not hurt to try. And your gardens are they totally destroyed? The sun today should have them pop back up! These storms are so darn crazy they scare me to death because they come up so fast out of no where it seems. And it's not fun chasing the chickens when its not their usual time to go inside yet

So many people are losing their babies cause of this heat, I really hope I don't lose any of mine. I only have the 4 girls and the boys I'm still trying to find them homes...

Atleast it cooled off a little bit today~ I kinda gave them all a rain shower yesterday to cool them down some. It was literally like being baked alive outside, after I came back in I got dizzy spells had to sit down for a little bit. And you poor girls with Migranes and Headaches they are horrible. My mom suffered with them for many years and my brothers get them quite often to. I get the normal headaches that can still be healed by Asprin and rest. I had 1 migrain when I was much younger and was in bed for days and any kind of light just made it worse. The meds my mom took for them were not good in the long run because of the addictive nature of them~ she would take fioricet with codeine and it was the only thing that helped her at the time but then her body became addicted to it. What a struggle that was. I sure hope they have better options for you guys but if any of you take this kind of med be careful!

HuckleBerryFarm~ (cause I don't know your name)

The Tomato Plants~ I made trellises out of sticks from trees in the yard and made like a teepee shape, secured them with some string and dug them into the yard a little and they have been working great~ and it's cheap!

You guys all have a great day! Enjoy the little cool down while it lasts

How do you guys keep your chickens alive in this heat! I have been putting ice packs in my coop and my chickens have been lying on the
Looking miserable. I have two Cochins and love them but they miserable. I was afraid two days ago (prior to the ice pack method) I was going to find my male dead. He literally sprawls flat on the ground with his neck out and wings out and pants and makes funny throaty sounds. My husband said if we can't keep them cool we will bring those two indoors and resist the urge to get Cochins in the future.

Mine have a lot of shade and the outside runs are covered in shade cloth too. They do pant, but notice lately everyone is digging down into the cool soil and stretching out in there. I haven't started doing the ice yet, but we have decided to go buy a couple of fans so they can get a breeze. I did notice that my silver laced wyandotte stands in her water all day, but does not pant. Hmmm smart chicky!

So, here's a what I did this week. While out riding the 4 wheeler with DW, I spotted an old 2x3 dog house in decent shape, but the roof had been torn/blown off. I stopped and said to her, now that would make a good baby pen house. Knowing I had some tin laying around from my pallet coop's roof, I loaded it onto the atv and we took it back home.

We set it up, laid the tin on the gables of the roof and nailed it down. Took some 3 foot fencing and my pvc poles ( I use PVC as my fence posts) and made a run area around the now baby chick coop. AND WAH LAH!

I will take a picture of it when I get home today. DW actually says its "cute" which means alot because she's def not into this whole chicken thing as me.

Now....here's the tricky part....find baby chicks to put in there

Great find! My husband made the frame for one of our runs out of pvc and it works great! Can't wait to see pictures. And if you need babies... I have 8 mille fleur d'uccle chicks that would fit in there perfect!
