I had foxes get numerous hens until I got Jolie but unfortunately she didn't stop this hawk from getting the duckling and SHE WAS RIGHT THERE! I know she tried but it was a huge hawk.

Mostly I see the sharp shinned hawks around but I wonder if the hawk scared Jolie, too! It was one of the biggest I have seen around here. Or maybe the mama duck scared Jolie! They can be mean looking. I should probably make another brooder and scoop all the babies up away from the moms so the rest will still be alive for the new owners coming this weekend. It broke Nicole's heart to see me leave them loose with the moms. They so enjoy being moms, I hate to take it from them but I know new owners want their babies, too.

I saw Jolie over by the fence where the hawk landed on top of the transformer pole eating the baby duck. She was sniffing around so I think she understands it got one of her charges.

With it being so hot I am hoping Guinea Bird is just down in the woods eating stuff until it cools off later, though the heat isn't as intense today as it has been. But still it is pretty miserable out there. I won't have AC most of tomorrow as they replace the wires on the one that is melted.

neighbor just said he saw a big owl in his barn and is missing ducks.. ahhhh here we go again...

poor Jolie bet she hated not gettting that sucker... wonder what it is to be red in color...???

All this talk of hawks, foxes, and owls makes me nervous! I've got my babies free ranging right now...they stay right under a cedar tree for the most part but still worries me!

Hope everyone is toughin it out in the heat..I tried to go do some work in the barn earlier and had to cut it short until it starts cooling down!

They say hawks will return over and over as long as an accessible food source is present.

That hawk was HUGE.

You need more mockingbirds.... They kept on and on til they ran the hawk off that transformer!

I thought it would be cooler here than at Amy's when we got back and it was cloudy.

Humidity is a killer. I was hotter here! Nicole refilled duck pools, I gave out some treats & we woke DH up to unload the feed. I had the easy part

ETA: Yes *I* was hotter........not *it* was hotter. I think it was just me
