They are finally friends.......

The girls seem quite content in their new coop. Lou Ann said they are always going to the door and looking out through the hardware cloth that is on it. They were finally able to get up on the new roost today. This one is only temporary. Lou Ann's son will be home again next weekend and will get the ladder roost or corner roosts built then. That is when their run will be done (or mostly done) also.
Here's a few on their roost.

We thought we would see if they liked frozen watermelon. Well, no one was quite sure what to do with it. Most of them just ran to the corner. One of the BO's got curious, sniffed it out, and then proceeded to.....walk on it!

Think we will try the watermelon again in a week or so!

Susanne - for me the ones that are a yellowish color with chipmunk stripes have been regular (gold) partridge. The grayish color ones have been silver partridge.

My silver partridge don't look a think like the standards say a gray should look.

Am just starting to breed them together to see what I get.

ETA: Here is one of my silver partridge chick

Ok - a question for you silkie people out there (Kimberly, Susanne, Amy and anyone else who knows them) - have ya'll ever heard of the bowtie silkies? A friend of mine has ended up with one by accident and I'd never heard of them before. They look like naked neck silkies.

AND - do any of you raise the lavender silkies? I have one tiny little lavender chick. She's not old enough for me to be sure but I'm trying my best to will her to be a hen. So when I figure out what I have, I will of course need a mate for her/him.

Joy, I do have lavender silkies. I have 8 pure lavs and 7 splits. One of them finally started laying! Since they're all the same age, we should have more soon. I put the first week's worth of eggs in the bator to see if they're fertile. So I should have something for you when you're ready! I have three lav split cockerals right now and I really only need one if you want an older one.

Your friend is probably talking about a Showgirl. They are naked neck Silkies. You're right! They were bred with Turkens (naked neck) I think. They have a silkie body with a long ole naked neck. Some showgirls have a completely naked neck and some (the bow ties) have some fluff around their neck like a tie. I had one showgirl and that boy was mean and ugly. I decided not to go in that direction. I've seen some really, really ugly ones and some that are kind of pretty. All in the eyes of the beholder!
